This role has a hybrid work schedule (2 days onsite) and we are considering candidates based in Portsmouth, NH, Boston, MA, Plano, TX, Columbus, OH and Indianapolis, IN.

Job Introduction:

 

The Global Digital Services (GDS) Product Management group is looking to hire a Product Owner II to their team. As a member of the Agile team, the candidate represents the voice of the customer and the organization through the delivery of business value. This person works closely with stakeholders (business and technology), including LOB leadership, to define and prioritize features and stories, ensuring alignment with customer needs and organizational goals. This person understands customers` problems in detail and ensures the problems are clearly defined, prioritized and the squad/team is focused on the most valuable work. 

The candidate will always communicate with the stakeholders to ensure an aligned understanding of how the squad/team can provide the highest value to the customer through the lens of the portfolio. This person collaborates with squads/teams, technologies and architects across portfolios to develop a deep understanding of the technologies and systems they support. 

 

About the job:

 

Product Strategy & Roadmap Ownership

  • Develop a deep understanding of Liberty Mutual's Intelligent Automation and Orchestration ecosystem, to effectively represent customer needs, business priorities, and platform capabilities.
  • Partner with business, engineering, architecture, and others to define and communicate a clear product vision aligned to organizational and strategic objectives.
  • Partner with portfolio and product leadership to translate strategic roadmaps into prioritized product capabilities, features, and execution plans.
  • Translate platform-level strategy and customer needs into prioritized capabilities and outcomes that deliver measurable business value.
  • Evaluate tradeoffs, risks, dependencies, and cost-of-delay considerations to guide prioritization and investment decisions.

Product Backlog & Delivery Leadership

  • Own and maintain a well-groomed, prioritized product backlog with clear, actionable user stories and acceptance criteria that enable effective squad execution.
  • Ensure backlog priorities align to product outcomes, portfolio objectives, customer needs, and enterprise technology strategies.
  • Serve as the primary product interface for the squad, providing day-to-day clarification of requirements, priorities, and business context.
  • Partner with engineering teams to remove blockers, manage dependencies, and support successful delivery of roadmap commitments. 

Stakeholder & Portfolio Alignment

  • Build strong relationships across technology, security, infrastructure, architecture, operations, and business organizations to drive alignment and shared understanding.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand customer challenges, identify opportunities, and ensure teams remain focused on delivering the highest-value work.
  • Contribute to platform-level planning and investment discussions while ensuring alignment between squad execution and broader organizational priorities.
  • Influence and negotiate priorities across teams and platforms to effectively manage competing demands, dependencies, and strategic objectives.
  • Communicate product strategy, roadmap progress, outcomes, and key decisions to stakeholders and leadership at all levels of the organization. 

 

Product Health, Outcomes & Insights

  • Define, monitor, and continuously improve product health metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) that measure customer value, reliability, operational performance, and business outcomes.
  • Proactively identify risks, gaps, technical debt, or improvement opportunities and drive actions to address them.
  • Utilize data, customer feedback, and operational insights to inform product decisions and prioritization.
  • Ensure regulatory, security, compliance, and enterprise governance requirements are appropriately considered in product planning and execution. 

Agile Leadership & Continuous Improvement

  • Actively participate in agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, demos, retrospectives, and organizational planning events.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement by leveraging customer feedback, operational learnings, and team insights to refine product strategy and delivery practices.
  • Partner across squads and product teams to share best practices, align on common capabilities, and improve end-to-end customer experiences.
  • Stay informed on Intelligent Automation industry trends, platform capabilities, automation opportunities, and AI-enabled technologies to bring informed recommendations to the team.
  • Champion an outcome-driven product mindset that balances customer value, business priorities, operational excellence, and long-term strategic objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors` degree in relevant field (business, computer science, humanities etc.).
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of Product Owner experience with agile teams as well as 7 years in business, technology, or consulting.
  • Knowledge of Agile development methodologies and IT project management.
  • Able to depict and explain the importance of complex ideas, issues and designs to varied audiences; educate SBU/department(s) on business vision and plan and the impact of change.
  • Able to influence a diverse group of stakeholders; strong leadership skills.
  • Able to make difficult and quick decisions daily.
  • Strong problem solver with demonstrated ability to lead a team to push the solutions and progress.
  • Experience in the insurance industry preferred.
  • Knowledge of relevant products and portfolio preferred.
  • Strong experimental mindset to drive innovation amongst uncertainty.

Pay Philosophy: The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
