This is a hybrid role requiring 2 days in the office a week in the following locations: Plano, Indianapolis, Portsmouth, and Boston

Our USRM Data & Analytics Engineering (DAE) team is looking for talented and motivated Data Engineer(s) to join our Data Governance Platform Engineering (DGP) team. In this pivotal role, you will work closely with other engineers, architects, and product partners to design, build, and evolve our enterprise data governance platforms. You will enable secure, high-quality, and well-managed data to power insights, analytics, and innovation across Liberty Mutual.
The USRM Data & Analytics Engineering organization is partnering with our Data Office to modernize how enterprise data is governed, secured, and enabled for analytics at scale. Our Data Governance Platform Engineering team builds the foundational capabilities that power secure data access, policy enforcement, metadata management, data protection, and automation across Liberty Mutual’s cloud data ecosystem. This is an opportunity to work on highly visible, enterprise-scale platforms that directly influence how data is consumed, protected, and trusted across the organization.
This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy solving complex platform and data security challenges, building scalable automation, and partnering across engineering, architecture, governance, and business teams to deliver modern data capabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
• Collaborate within a dynamic, high-performing agile team of engineers, scrum masters, and product owners to develop, enhance, and scale modern data governance platforms.
• Apply your expertise in data governance, cloud infrastructure, and automation to build resilient, observable, and secure data solutions (e.g., monitoring, orchestration, load auditing, data security).
• Leverage modern technology stacks (e.g., AWS, Java, coding agents) to build automation and repeatable data patterns that accelerate delivery and improve platform reliability.
• Design and implement platform components to enable the secure ingestion, curation, classification, and provisioning of complex enterprise data for analytics and data science.
• Analyze sophisticated data and technical problems, crafting innovative solutions that exceed customer and business expectations.
• Handle end-to-end development, including coding, testing, and debugging during each cycle.
• Ensure the robustness and quality of your solutions by developing comprehensive automated tests (unit, integration, regression) and applying best practices in code quality.
• Mentor and guide junior team members, fostering a culture of growth, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
• Champion agile methodologies, collaborating across teams, and advocating for iterative improvement and a growth mindset.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Platform engineering experience supporting Data Governance capabilities (e.g., data access controls, privacy, discovery, classification, masking).
• Experience integrating AI/ML-assisted tools and practices into the SDLC to improve code quality, automate testing and deployment (e.g., AI-powered code review, test generation, CI/CD optimization), and accelerate delivery while maintaining governance and security controls.
• Practical experience with AWS core services: CloudFormation, S3, EC2, Lambda, Step Functions, IAM.
• Solid foundation in Java, Nodejs and familiarity with Python, JavaScript and/or TypeScript.
• Understanding of API design concepts and best practices.
• Advanced SQL skills.
• Demonstrated problem-solving skills, eagerness to learn, and ability to work through ambiguity.
• Team-oriented mindset and a passion for collaboration in a distributed agile environment.
• Experience with Snowflake or similar cloud data platforms.
• Familiarity with RBAC (Role-Based Access Control) implementation and other data security concepts.
• Experience with Informatica/IDMC or other enterprise ETL and governance platforms.
• Experience building or supporting enterprise platform services with a focus on scalability, resiliency, observability, and operational supportability.
• Knowledge of Kafka and event-driven architecture.
• Proficient in CI/CD tooling (e.g., GitHub, GitHub Actions, or comparable tools).
• Experience with functional and integration testing in agile environments.
• Experience using code quality and testing frameworks (e.g., unit tests, mocking/stubbing).
• Experience troubleshooting distributed systems, performance bottlenecks, and enterprise-scale data platform issues.
Pay Philosophy: The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
