Description

  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments of property insurance applications in compliance with company guidelines, local regulations, and underwriting standards.
  • Analyze property values, construction details, occupancy, and exposure to hazards to determine appropriate coverage and pricing.
  • Review and evaluate risk improvement suggestions, loss control reports, and underwriting data to identify potential risks and recommend risk management strategies.
  • Review and negotiate policy terms and conditions with assistance from the manager when needed.
  • Manage a diverse portfolio of property insurance policies, ensuring effective risk selection, pricing adequacy, and profitability.
  • Monitor portfolio performance, identify emerging trends, and implement necessary adjustments to maintain desired loss ratios and financial targets.
  • Collaborate with claims teams to review and analyze claims data, identify patterns, and incorporate insights into underwriting decisions and risk management strategies.
  • Position requires domestic and international travel up to 30%.
  • Telecommuting permitted up to 70%.

Qualifications

Employer will accept 8 years of experience in the job offered or in a Underwriting Specialist-related occupation.
Position requires demonstrable experience with the following:

  • Property insurance and cat modeling analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and autonomously on all but the most complex accounts and cases.
  • Underwriting policies within underwriting authority.
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions on whether to accept business by making analytical, data-driven decisions based on data and information provided, including pricing the risk.
  • Managing own portfolio of brokers and agents and clients.
  • Leveraging market presence and knowledge to bring in new business where possible.
  • Maintaining a strong market presence, including established trading relationships with agents and brokers.
    Articulating key coverage difference with a high degree of detail.
  • Providing significant input into the business and marketing planning process, including advanced data-driven insights from portfolio analysis.
  • Participating in projects across departments designed to drive underwriting and process excellence.
  • Modeling effective collaboration across teams, stakeholders, and partners including UW Support, Claims and Actuarial.
  • Demonstrating strong knowledge of key legal cases, legislation and regulation impacting areas of underwriting expertise.
  • Experience in the insurance and re-insurance industries in Latin American markets.
  • Position requires domestic and international travel up to 30%.
  • Telecommuting permitted up to 70%.
