Description

The Fine Art and Specie Underwriter plays a critical role in driving the growth and profitability of the firm’s fine art specialty product lines. This position requires strong marketing acumen, as well as the ability to underwrite and manage a diverse portfolio of products and services designed to address standard risks, including those requiring specialized handling or bespoke coverage solutions. The ideal candidate will possess a practical understanding of fine art underwriting principles, practices, and methodologies, including coverage analysis, product development, innovative marketing strategies, relevant systems, and competitive market dynamics.

Responsibilities:

Underwriting, Risk Assessment & Portfolio Management

  • Underwrite, price, and manage a portfolio of Fine Art risks in alignment with underwriting strategy and risk appetite.  This includes reviewing and analyzing insured's (or prospective insured's) overall exposure, aggregations, protection, loss prevention controls, loss history, financials, portfolio management, and other pertinent information.
  • Maintain disciplined portfolio management, ensuring profitability and quality across new and renewal business.
  • Adherence to individualized underwriting authority guidelines and rating structure, and monitor portfolio performance, aggregate exposures, and premium income to ensure alignment with business plans, underwriting appetite, and financial targets.
  • Provide support to senior team members on complex accounts, including but not limited to renewal preparation, policy issuance and review, endorsements, invoicing, internal processing, and file maintenance.
  • Evaluate fine art valuations and references secondary market for any variances in insured values for the team.
  • Assist manager on special projects including but not limited to, report preparation revision of underwriting guidelines and manuals, development of new marketing materials, social media management.

Broker, Client & Market Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers and clients to support profitable growth within Liberty Mutual’s underwriting appetite.
  • Participate in broker meetings, client engagements, business development initiatives, and represent Liberty at art industry events, art fairs and conferences.
  • Maintain awareness of market conditions, competitor offerings, and emerging Fine Art and Specie risks.

Administrative & Operational Excellence

  • Process, record, and update business accounts accurately and in a timely manner across Liberty Mutual’s underwriting and administrative systems.
  • Provide administrative and technical support, including maintaining accurate underwriting files and records.
  • Ensure adherence to all internal processing standards, procedures, underwriting guidelines, and regulatory requirements.

Professional Development & Compliance

  • Maintain and continuously develop technical expertise in Fine Art and Specie underwriting, coverage trends, and valuation methodologies.
  • Demonstrate Liberty Mutual’s values through integrity, collaboration, accountability, and customer-centric decision-making.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, industry designation or professional degree preferred.
  • Minimum 2+ years underwriting experience in Fine Arts, Private Client / High Net Worth, Inland Marine or similar.
  • Demonstrated analytical ability to evaluate and judge underwriting risks within defined authority.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills required with ability to successfully develop and maintain productive producer/customer relationships.
  • Must be a collaborative, team player that can provide creative solutions to problems.
  • Knowledge of functionality of systems including outstanding technical skills with Microsoft Office and other relevant systems.

The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role.
