Description

The Data Science Infrastructure organization within USRM is hiring a Data Scientist for its Data Science Tools team. The Data Scientist role will sit within the Data Science Tools team of Infrastructure and be tasked with reengineering the way USRM Data Science approaches the entire modeling pipeline. Their primary goal will be to architect and construct modeling tools and pipelines to massively enhance the ease of iteration, evaluation, and deployment of models and thereby enhance the productivity of the entire USRM Data Science department by orders of magnitude. The objective of this role is to build tools and processes to empower other people. The ideal candidate is proactive, highly technical, and most importantly, driven by a desire to help others and push the boundaries of what we think is possible.

 

**Candidates who live within 50 miles of Boston, MA; Portsmouth, NH; Seattle, WA; Columbus, OH; or Plano, TX will follow a hybrid schedule, coming into the office two days per week. Otherwise, this role is remote with occasional travel. **

 

Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement modeling tools, pipelines, and applications to massively enhance the ease of iteration, evaluation, and deployment of models
  • Develop and have ownership over strategies and roadmaps for how to push USRM Data Science expert teams to achieve dramatically improved processes
  • Lead the building and maintenance of Python packages for use across the organization, including designing architecture, guiding coding agents, and reviewing code
  • Implement AI Agents into Tools via MCP, RAG or other methods/frameworks (e.g., PydanticAI, LangChain Deep Agents)
  • Utilize pipelining tools such as Luigi, Airflow, celery etc, modeling packages such as MLflow, h2o, sklearn, optuna, LightGBM etc, and python tools such as Pydantic, fastAPI, uv, ruff, pytest etc.
  • Follow and promote MLOps and AI Agent best practices across the organization, collaborating with groups like Enterprise Data & Data Science
  • Keep up to date with the state-of-the-art developments in Data Science open-source frameworks, MLOps, and agentic coding practices
  • Shape the direction of the Tools team and build a cohesive team culture of ownership, and shared growth

Qualifications

  • Broad knowledge of predictive analytic techniques and statistical diagnostics of models.
  • Advanced knowledge of predictive toolset; reflects as expert resource for tool development.
  • Demonstrated ability to exchange ideas and convey complex information clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to establish and build relationships within and outside the organization.
  • Ability to give effective training and presentations to management and other groups.
  • Ability to use results of analysis to persuade team, department management or senior management to a particular course of action.
  • Broad knowledge of business drivers and market context.
  • Has a value driven perspective with regard to understanding of work context and impact.
  • Competencies typically acquired through a Ph.D. degree (in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Actuarial Science or other scientific field of study) and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, a Master`s degree (scientific field of study) and a minimum of  6 years of relevant experience or may be acquired through a Bachelor`s degree (scientific field of study) and a minimum of  8 years of relevant experience.

The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role.
