Description

This position is a hybrid Underwriting Support/Underwriting role which provides operational and underwriting support to the Small-To-Mid Commercial Surety underwriting team.  The role will primarily support the underwriting team with highly responsive service by managing new business submissions, preparing prep guides, entering financial statements and serve as a resource to agents for assistance with bond issuance and billing systems. They will also be responsible for reviewing renewals and endorsement/change requests; and will develop and demonstrate knowledge and skills needed to appropriately evaluate the acceptability of risks and obtain proper approvals.

 

This is a hybrid position. You will be required to go into the office twice a week if you reside within 50 miles of the following offices: Orange, CA or Seattle, WA. Please note this policy is subject to change.

 

  • Sets up new account submissions and bond requests by identifying, gathering and entering information into systems.
  • Provides eBonding and Agents’ Portal support/training for the agency and underwriters to facilitate bond issuance and resolve billing questions.
  • Review and refer premium-bearing endorsements, updating underwriting information, properly updating the file, obtaining proper approval and coordinating with UAs and/or agents on the issuance of endorsements/riders.
  • Prepare GAIs for execution, manage and track status, and confirm proper indemnity is received and documented.
  • Supports the commercial bond renewal process by gathering renewal documentation from agents, updating files and the system, and obtaining proper approval.
  • Enters financial statements into the system.
  • Acts as a resource, mentor or subject matter expert for less experienced coworkers (bond specialists and underwriting assistants); may also utilize expertise to participate in or lead special projects.
  • Provides recommendations to streamline workflow and recommendations for system enhancements. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor`s degree (or equivalent experience) and at least 5 years of surety bond underwriting assistant experience expected.
  • Demonstrates a solid understanding of surety business and all processing functions required to support operations.
  • Capabilities include critical thinking/problem solving, decision making, customer focus, detail orientated, exceptional customer service and excellent written/verbal communications skill.
  • Demonstrates ability to work well on a team and independently.
  • Competent and proficient with computer software applications utilized by Surety.
  • Demonstrates ability to mentor Surety Underwriting Support staff.
  • Demonstrates leadership skills in performing special projects.
