Description

Helps drive growth, profitability, and overall performance of the Builder’s Risk book of business within the energy sector through strategic marketing, underwriting leadership, and active portfolio management, with accountability for outcomes including profitability, risk selection and growth. Operates with broader authority and judgment, overseeing complex and high‑severity risks, shaping deal structures and coverage, and setting underwriting direction within appetite. Brings deep technical expertise across the energy sector—including oil, gas, petrochemical, chemical, and power generation (thermal and renewables)—and applies advanced underwriting knowledge, market insight, and competitive awareness to drive disciplined growth. Partners closely with distribution and internal stakeholders to steer performance, monitor portfolio trends, guide decision‑making, and ensure consistent execution aligned with business strategy.

Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for portfolio results by helping set and execute the annual business plan aligned to risk appetite and growth goals.
  2. Underwrite complex energy Builder’s Risk accounts, structuring coverage and pricing within strategy and authority.
  3. Ensure underwriting quality and governance by following authority, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  4. Leverage data and insights to drive profitable growth and address emerging risks.
  5. Build and maintain key market relationships with brokers, clients, and reinsurers to support growth and retention.
  6. Partner across key business units—including Risk Engineering, Claims, Actuarial, Finance, and Operations—to enhance client outcomes.
  7. Ensure contract certainty through accurate, timely documentation of underwriting decisions and exposures.
  8. Drive improvement and innovation by contributing to enterprise initiatives, process enhancements, and new underwriting approaches.

 

Qualifications

Advanced-level knowledge of insurance products/coverage, underwriting, pricing, risk selection, market segments and marketplace; insurance finance and actuarial concepts; loss control/risk engineering; marketing techniques, regulatory environment and reinsurance; advanced-level knowledge of territory management.

 

Ability to apply underwriting/appetite, tools, systems, and resources to achieve goals, solve complex problems, establish and build healthy working relationships, lead mentoring relationships, and negotiate, as normally acquired and a related bachelor’s degree seven to ten years of relevant experience preferred; CPCU or professional insurance designation strongly preferred.

The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role.
