Lead Liberty Mutual’s global shift to a cloud-first virtual app and desktop experience. As Engineering Manager for Virtual Applications and Virtual Desktop, you’ll own the journey from legacy Citrix to Microsoft RemoteApp, Azure Virtual Desktop, and Windows 365—powering how 60,000+ people work every day. Your mandate is outcomes. Those will be to retire XenApp, move 30% of persistent VDI to nonpersistent multisession with ~30% cost savings and 90%+ user satisfaction, and deliver 95% patch compliance by operationalizing Patch My PC Cloud and Intune. You’ll build a high-performing team, automate image and app pipelines, instrument real KPIs (login time, session stability, cost per user), and harden access with Entra ID, Zscaler, and FSLogix. In the end, you’ll have modernized our platform, cut human-managed incidents by 30%+ and improved reliability through SRE practices. Within the Digital Workforce Enablement organization, the Engineering Manager for Virtual Applications and Virtual Desktop will own strategy, delivery, and operations for Liberty’s global virtual app and desktop estate. You will lead a high-performing engineering team to complete a multi-year modernization to Microsoft Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD), Windows 365 Cloud PC, and Microsoft RemoteApp, while sustaining and optimizing current services.

 

You will hire, manage, and deploy resources across the team to align staff to business priorities; coach and evaluate performance; create a motivating, learning-focused environment; and create technical alignment when needed. You will partner closely with Product, Architecture, Security, Networking, and Tech Support to deliver a reliable, secure, cost-effective service that delights end users and meets companywide objectives. You will manage total cost of ownership, advocate for removal of technical debt, and champion agile practices.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Understands the business domain and product vision; in partnership with other team members (Scrum Master, Architect, Product Owner, etc.) aligns work of the team toward the shared goals for the product.
  • Own end-to-end engineering and operations for virtual applications and desktop platforms, including roadmap, service health, SLAs/SLOs, performance and cost
  • In partnership with the Product Owner, define and track KPIs (e.g., login time, connection success rate, session stability, cost per user per month, CSAT/NPS).
  • Monitor team effectiveness, remove roadblocks, manage dependencies, and continuously improve engineering flow and quality.
  • Initiates and fosters collaborative partnerships across technology and business stakeholders, vendors and technology executives; develops relationships that support increasing efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Manages the quality of work delivered by team members and deals effectively with performance issues in a timely manner.
  • Coordinates and delivers performance reviews and drives professional development, including rotations and special assignments.
  • Participates in the development of business and/or technology vision, strategies, critical success factors and operating plans for application, unit or platform.
  • Hire and develop talent; conduct performance reviews; drive growth through coaching, mentoring, rotations, and special assignments.
  • May establish financial plan for the application, portfolio or overall unit and manages to plan.
  • May lead efforts to evaluate, select and implement new technologies to enhance application or platform.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of technology concepts, strategies and methodologies typically acquired through a Bachelor`s
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in a practice relevant domain including delivering software solutions in an agile environment.
  • 3 years in a people leadership role preferred.
  • Able to manage complex technology development concepts, capabilities and maturity.
  • Requires excellent analytical ability, consultative, communication, presentation and management skills, strong judgment and ability to effectively liaise with cross functional stakeholders and optimize teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate collaboratively and build consensus.
  • In-depth knowledge of technology standards and guidelines; knowledge of management concepts, practices and techniques; thorough knowledge of business functions and operations, objectives and strategies.

The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
