Description

Global Risk Solutions (GRS) Tech at Liberty Mutual is looking for a Director of Engineering to lead the Product Enablement portfolio within the Underwriting domain. Underwriting is at the center of the $25B global commercial and specialty (re)insurer that is GRS, and this role is critical to delivering capabilities to enable GRS to achieve its objectives. This leader will be responsible for setting the vision for the portfolio in partnership with Underwriting, Operations, and Product, and executing against that vision through tech investment. This organization believes in simple, innovative, outcomes, and the ideal candidate will work in service of our people, purpose, and culture, while delivering outsized value for GRS and Liberty Mutual.

 

About the role:

 

  • Define and communicate the business/IT vision and strategy; establish critical success factors, operating and migration plans; anticipate technology evolution and translate it into business solutions; align direction and architectures with enterprise standards.
  • Build and lead high-performing teams: hire and manage managers and staff; set staffing strategy (FTEs, skills, internal/external mix); coach leaders; execute hiring, promotion, and termination decisions.
  • Drive performance management: set individual objectives and development plans; oversee appraisals and compensation; ensure alignment with project and department goals.
  • Cultivate strategic partnerships with clients, vendors, IT leaders, and senior business executives; balance stakeholder needs with enterprise priorities.
  • Own departmental finance: create budgets and targets with business partners; manage to plan and ensure project financials are met.
  • Oversee the portfolio: direct multiple projects, establishing scope and schedules; allocate resources, prioritize work, and adjust to shifting priorities.
  • Lead process and organizational improvement: enhance HR and management practices; understand business processes and apply appropriate IT standards and solutions; monitor industry trends and competitors, maintain a strong network, and convert insights into strategic and tactical recommendations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in technical or business discipline or related experience; Master's Degree preferred.
  • Generally, more than 10 years related experience with 5 years in leadership role.
  • In-depth knowledge of IT concepts, strategies and methodologies and their application to business opportunities. In-depth knowledge of business operations, objectives and strategies.
  • In-depth knowledge of project planning methodologies and tools and IT standards and guidelines.
  • Advanced knowledge of management concepts, practices and techniques. Ability to promote a team environment consisting of several teams.
  • Highly developed negotiation, facilitation and consensus building skills.
  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills; strong presentation skills.

The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
