Description

The US Retail Markets (USRM) Small Commercial (SC) Analytics team is seeking a leader to help assess and drive overall book profitability and growth across all Small Commercial lines products.  The key responsibility of the Senior Director will be to develop robust combined ratio forecasts and utilize it to communicate and continually re-evaluate countrywide rate and profit actions. In addition, this role will own or support development, guidance, and execution/monitoring of various Underwriting-facing tools.

 

This role will act as a liaison across Product, Data Science, and Finance to ensure there is a strong understanding of small commercial profitability and growth outlooks. The role will report directly to the SC Countrywide Analytics manager and will lead a team of approximately 5 analysts. This role is open to both actuarial and non-actuarial backgrounds.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage Profit Guidance process for Small Commercial, developing operational combined ratio forecasts for each SC line of business to ensure a path to profitability.
  • Support in the pricing guidance and monitoring of Underwriting pricing tools from both a mathematical and user-experience perspective.
  • Oversee quarterly pricing guidance process for renewals, driving enhancements as necessary.
  • Communicate areas of concerns that need to be addressed by stakeholders across SC leadership.
  • Apply knowledge of insurance financials and levers for improvement to gain consensus cross-functionally on a comprehensive plan to achieve consistent profitable growth across SC lines of business at the countrywide level.
  • Develop team through consistent feedback and coaching.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Mathematics, Economics, Statistics or other quantitative field; PhD helpful given quantitative work overseen.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in an analytically driven environment.
  • Excellent quantitative, analytical, and problem solving skills are required.
  • Expert knowledge of data sources, tools, and business processes, including a sophisticated understanding of cross-functional operations and business drivers.
  • Expert knowledge of advanced statistical techniques.
  • Proven ability to influence other leaders across an organization.
