Description

Assesses risks and makes recommendations for underwriting decisions with support and guidance from leadership as needed, while developing underwriting skills and building critical internal and external relationships.

 

This is a hybrid position. Candidates residing without 50 miles of the following offices are required to report onsite twice a week: Weatogue, CT; Chicago, IL; Charlotte, NC; Plano, TX; Plymouth Meeting, PA. Please note this policy is subject to change. 


Responsibilities
  • Focuses on building relationships with key external parties (brokers, agents).
  • Manages portfolio of brokers/agents in parts of GRS where complexity and line size differ little between policies.
  • Develops underwriting skills and builds relationships with internal stakeholders and partners (e.g., UW Support, Claims, Actuarial, Directors of Underwriting in GRS North America, etc.), using understanding of how these teams work together to inform underwriting decisions.
  • Continues building underwriting expertise using both internal and external resources.
  • Executes - and may contribute to - marketing plans.
  • Contributes to team projects (e.g., process / tool improvement).
  • May contribute to the analysis of team`s portfolio.
  • May manage the quality of data within relevant systems for the book of business that the team is responsible for underwriting.
  • May provide on-the-job support for new hires.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Business or equivalent typically required.
  • At least 1 year, typically 1.5 or more years, of underwriting experience and/or other related business experience.
  • Actively pursuing professional insurance designations.
  • Ability to successfully develop and maintain effective internal and external relationships.
  • Demonstrated analytical ability to evaluate and judge underwriting risks within defined authority.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills required with ability to successfully develop and maintain productive producer/customer relationships.
  • When applicable, successful completion of certifications.

The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role.
