Description

Join our Data Intelligence and Underwriter Tools team in Small Commercial Underwriting to design, build, and maintain reporting solutions that drive data informed decisions across the organization. In this role you will consult with business stakeholders to define reporting requirements, develop and deploy reporting tools (Power BI, Excel/VBA, dashboards, automated extracts), and establish monitoring and maintenance practices to ensure accuracy and reliability. You will synthesize analytic findings into clear insights and recommendations and present them to technical and non-technical audiences.  

 

**This is a range posting (Gr. 13 - 15). The level of position offered will be based on skills and experience at manager discretion**

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Partner with stakeholders to gather reporting requirements and translate business needs into scalable reporting solutions.
  • Design, develop, and maintain interactive dashboards and reports using Power BI and Excel (including VBA), ensuring performance, usability, and secure access.
  • Implement automated refresh schedules, validation checks, and monitoring to ensure data integrity and timely delivery of reports.
  • Troubleshoot production issues, manage versioning, and document report logic and data lineage.
  • Analyze reported data, identify trends and anomalies, and prepare actionable insights and recommendations tailored to stakeholder audiences.
  • Present findings and proposed solutions to stakeholders and leadership; translate complex technical concepts into clear business implications.
  • Stay current on reporting best practices, visualization standards, and relevant technologies to continuously improve our reporting capabilities.
  • Maintain attention to detail and quality while balancing pragmatic delivery and the broader business impact.
  • Leads own work streams on medium to long-term or moderate to high complexity projects. May manage aspects of low to moderate complexity projects.
  • May create and/or be owner of training material content.
  • May create formal training sessions and modules.
  • Actively share job knowledge with less experienced analysts.
  • Lead job shadow discussions with less experienced analysts.
  • Provides technical training and user support to business groups.
  • May be assigned to mentor a new hire.
  • May supervise interns.

 

Preferred Skills:

 

  • Hands on experience with Power BI and advanced Excel (including VBA/macros).
  • Strong SAS/SQL.
  • Experience implementing data refresh automation, monitoring, and validation processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; proven ability to present technical findings to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong problem solving, organization, and documentation practices; detail oriented with an eye for data quality.
  • Collaborative, solutions-oriented, and growth mindset and the ability to work across cross functional teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, economics, or other quantitative field. Minimum 3 years, typically 4 years or more of relevant work experience.
  • Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, and data analysis software (e.g., SAS, SQL, PowerBI).
  • Must have good planning, organizational, analytical, decision making and communication skills.
