Description

This role is the chief engineer for the Equipment Breakdown Engineering organization, and is accountable for all people and activities. EB Engineering risk evaluations of commercial properties that provide underwriters with the engineering information needed to better evaluate exposures. The team is also responsible for all jurisdiction inspections of boilers and pressure vessels in compliance with all jurisdictional requirements in the US and Canada. The chief engineer is accountable for the quality, quantity and timeliness of inspections and reporting work performed by EB engineers and vendors. They are responsible for the delivery of internal and external training programs as well as the research, development and maintenance of engineering policies, procedures, and technology. The chief is also responsible for ensuring our continued accreditation as an Authorized Inspection Agency and appropriate commissions for all inspectors.


Responsibilities

  • Plans, controls, organizes, and directs the Equipment Breakdown Engineering organization with accountability for attaining objectives related to, production, quality, customer satisfaction and compliance with jurisdictional laws.
  • Responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of equipment breakdown engineering policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Responsible for maintaining Liberty Mutual's status as an Authorized Inspection Agency.
  • Ensures that effective processes are in place to select, develop and retain talented employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Develops and delivers research and internal and external training that supports the business plan and operational strategy.
  • Drives the development, implementation and maintenance of effective technology used by field engineers to gather, organize, analyze and report information to, underwriters, brokers, jurisdictions and/or customers.
  • Contributes to the short and long-term business planning process by developing an annual business plan and contributing to the Business Unit's long-term strategy.

Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge of equipment breakdown engineering and industry trends; demonstrated ability to build a strong management team, plan and organize work through that team, develop effective relationships, create alignment within the organization, continually manage and improve process and the ability to adapt to new situations; as normally acquired by a master's degree or equivalent work experience, engineering certifications and at least 10 years of related experience, some of which should be in a management capacity
