Description

Join Liberty Mutual’s Experience & Strategy team as a Product Owner supporting the delivery of modern sales experiences for our Direct go-to-market channel. You’ll own a portion of a new sales platform used by hundreds of internal agents in our direct call center, initially focused on enabling personal lines property products (homeowners) and growing over time. Reporting to the Director, Product Owner, you’ll be part of a portfolio focused on empowering insurance professionals to deliver value for customers and Liberty Mutual through new business. You’ll be part of Liberty Mutual’s Experience & Strategy organization that partners across product, engineering, design, compliance, and operations to build modern, scalable sales experiences. If you care about designing sales experiences that delight users, improve accuracy, and drive operational efficiency, this role is a strong match.

Why this role matters

  • High-impact work: influence a new sales platform used across our direct call center and shape how thousands of customers are quoted and served.
  • Ground-floor opportunity to define a redesigned customer sales experience for Homeowners.
  • High visibility, cross-functional influence, and the ability to shape product direction and user outcomes prior to engineering execution.
  • Cross-functional collaboration: partner closely with business leaders, engineers, architects, compliance, and UX to translate customer needs into delivered product.
  • Career growth: work in an agile environment within a large enterprise portfolio; develop strategic product skills, stakeholder management, and domain expertise in personal lines.
  • Data-driven delivery: define and measure product KPIs and build monitoring to ensure long-term product health and ecosystem stability

Key responsibilities

  • Define and communicate product vision and strategy for your scope of the sales experience, aligned to portfolio and organizational priorities.
  • Own and prioritize the product backlog; write clear, testable user stories and acceptance criteria that enable engineering to deliver business value.
  • Translate customer problems and business objectives into actionable work, focusing the squad on the highest-value outcomes.
  • Collaborate daily with the Agile squad—product designers, engineers, QA, and business SMEs—to clarify requirements, remove roadblocks, and keep delivery aligned to strategy.
  • Lead stakeholder engagement across business, technology, and executive leadership to set expectations for timelines, capabilities, and trade-offs.
  • Drive planning activities: participate in team and portfolio quarterly planning, demos, retrospectives, and other agile ceremonies.
  • Establish and monitor product KPIs and health metrics; design observability where needed and proactively assess impacts on the broader ecosystem.
  • Analyze feasibility, cost of delay, and economic trade-offs to support prioritization and decision-making.
  • Ensure products comply with regulatory, compliance, and industry constraints; negotiate aligned priorities with internal and external squads/teams.

Ideal candidate will have:

  • Homeowners insurance experience. Acceptable alternatives: experience in financial services, sales environments, personal lines auto or modernizing legacy applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; skilled at breaking down complexity for diverse audiences.
  • Comfortable operating independently in ambiguous environments and driving work forward without a full engineering team.
  • Proven experience owning a product backlog, writing user stories, and driving delivery with a cross-functional engineering team.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills; ability to influence executive and technical audiences.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Agile development methodologies and IT project management as typically acquired through a Bachelors` degree in relevant field (business, computer science, humanities etc.) and a minimum of 3 to 5 years direct experience with agile teams as well as 7 years in business, technology, or consulting.
  • Able to depict and explain the importance of complex ideas, issues and designs to varied audiences; educate SBU/department(s) on business vision and plan and the impact of change.
  • Able to influence a diverse group of stakeholders; strong leadership skills.
  • Able to make difficult and quick decisions daily.
  • Strong problem solver with demonstrated ability to lead a team to push the solutions and progress.
