As Director, Product Owner, you’ll lead a $30M portfolio driving innovation in policy management—modernizing core systems, accelerating speed to market, and enabling growth across our portfolio. Lead change that impacts millions of customers.

 

Our US Retail Markets business unit is searching for a high performing and highly motivated Director Product Owner (DPO) to lead our Personal Lines Policy software products. This role will lead product strategy for Policy Lifecycle Management, Policy Data Management, and Policy Provisioning for our Personal Lines (Auto, Property, and Specialty). In this role you will manage a $30M portfolio that advances growth and profitability initiatives while enabling critical investments for Service, Claims, and Billing.  

 

In addition, the role is central to our multiyear transformational journey to simplify and modernize our Product offering and our Technology. As a leader on this journey, you will help reshape the foundation for Personal Lines at scale—modernizing core policy systems to reduce complexity and TCO, improving speed to market for products and filings, and delivering more accurate, timely data to business partners and customers. Your work will directly enable profitable growth, operational resilience, and cross platform initiatives across the enterprise. 

 

You will own and evolve product strategy and roadmaps, lead cross functional Agile delivery with internal teams and third-party vendors, and collaborate across the organization to enable initiatives and advance core policy capabilities.  

 

Given the nature of the transformation, we will require top notch talent that has the skills, experience, seniority and strength to push through this complex journey. 

 

The Leader in this role will:  

  • Lead: Be a leader, coach, and mentor to a team of Product Owners, and Agile teams. Lead and coach cross functional Agile teams to deliver features, releases, and platform capabilities 

  • Strategize: Develop Roadmap, Strategy, and Vision for the suite of software products based on a deep understanding of the markets, users, and industry trends related to Policy Lifecycle, Policy Data, and Provisioning across Liberty Mutual and Safeco. 

  • Evaluate: Conduct in-depth performance analyses of our Policy software products, formulate plans for improvement, and execute on them 

  • Prioritize: Establish objectives and key results (OKRs) in alignment with the roadmap and overall business strategy 

  • Analyze, Decide and Execute: Harness data-driven insights to build business cases and/or inform roadmap actions and strategy. Execute and deliver target key results 

  • Collaborate: Collaborate closely with Product leaders as well as peer portfolio teams to align priorities, remove roadblocks and secure resources to deliver end-to-end solutions 

  • Present: Present frequently to peers and sr. leaders building alignment on your vision and strategy with a complex set of stakeholders 

 

Ideal candidates will have: 

  • Bachelors’ degree in relevant field and a minimum of 10 years’ experience in product, product delivery, or technology within financial services, customer or technology organizations 

  • Proven experience in product-centric and agile practices. Sufficient technical proficiency to drive product design and have an informed, independent voice 

  • Passionate and self-motivated with a desire to learn new tools and technologies 

  • Strong strategic and problem solver mindset with ability to break down complex problems into testable components 

  • Comfortable with making decisions with some level of uncertainty (incl. prioritization), proven ability to pivot and adjust quickly as new information is presented, and comfortable working in a fast paced and high-pressure environment. 

  • Leverage analytics to make data driven decisions that maximizes short/long term value  

  • Strong influencing skills, working with peers and leaders in a complex cross-functional environment 

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills  

Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge product management, Agile development methodologies, and experience in organizational change management as typically acquired through a Bachelors` degree in relevant field (business, computer science, etc.) and a minimum of 10 years` experience in product development, business, marketing, technology, and/or consulting
  • Master`s degree preferred
  • High level of proven business expertise needed to set clear priorities for product and understand business value impacts across an entire business unit
  • High level of proven outcomes managing and mentoring product managers, product owners, and people leaders
  • Technical proficiency required to participate in program increment planning and have an informed, independent voice
  • Strong influencing and leadership skills in order to be seen as the decision maker when interfacing with business, and willingness to dissent with both teams and business
  • Proven experience with Agile practices and expectations
  • Comfortable with making decisions with some level of uncertainty
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, both written and verbal
  • Encourages non-hierarchical culture

The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
