This role combines strategic leadership, strong organizational discipline and deep technical underwriting expertise to drive profitable growth across a diverse portfolio of general industry accounts. • Lead, coach and develop a team of umbrella and excess underwriters; set clear performance goals, conduct regular reviews, and build bench strength.
  • Own the underwriting strategy and profitability for a portfolio of excess liability business in the Northeast; set priorities that focus the team on sources of profitable growth.
  • Exercise authority on complex submissions and referrals; provide timely, well‑reasoned decisions that balance growth and risk.
  • Strengthen underwriter capability on multi‑line accounts and ensure consistent application of underwriting guidelines and pricing discipline.
  • Maintain and grow visible, trusted relationships with external brokers, agents and other market partners to support new business and retention.
  • Partner with claims, actuarial, reinsurance, product and legal teams to evaluate large or unusual exposures, leverage loss trends, and refine appetite and terms.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives — underwriting process enhancements, data/analytics adoption, and knowledge sharing — with a positive, change‑oriented approach.
  • Represent the company at industry events, broker meetings and internal forums to articulate the firm’s value proposition and marketplace positioning.
  • Monitor portfolio performance and KPIs (e.g., premium growth, loss ratio, combined ratio, retention) and take corrective action as required.
