We are seeking an experienced Principal Software Engineer to join the GRS Platform Engineering Team to help drive high performance engineering by advising and consulting on public cloud usage for the GRS Tech global environments that focuses on optimizing existing and new environments for cost, performance, and design.

 

In this role, you will participate in identifying, developing, and enhancing engineering enabler platforms and tools, reuse patterns, public cloud standardization and lifecycle guidance to help reduce the cognitive load for GRS developers. Responsibilities:

  • Partner with GRS Tech teams from around the globe to provide guidance and advice to optimize public cloud usage and spend, as well as promote and support the use of Platform Engineering solutions and best practices.
  • Provide consultation on cloud architectures to application teams
  • Partner with cross-organization team members to help influence and shape the product roadmap.
  • Develop and maintain cloud enablement solutions market-wide across many cloud accounts.
  • Contribute to and own centrally managed cloud patterns, templates, libraries, and generators.
  • Lead research and proof-of-concept initiatives to develop creative solutions for engineering enablers, tools and reuse patterns.
  • Drive improvement in Agile practices within self-organized team and share ownership of Agile ceremonies with all team members.
  • Mentor/Coach other engineers to foster their growth and development.
  • Participate in cross team collaborations with other teams in the Engineering and Technology Operations group to share knowledge and promote continuous learning.
  • Provide production support as needed.

 

 

Preferred Skills:

  • Expertise in AWS services and platforms including RDS, Containers, Lambda, EC2, and GitHub Actions CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with cloud networking concepts including VPCs, Peering, PrivateLink, and security groups
  • Expertise in cloud Identity and Access Management concepts, preferably AWS IAM
  • Experience with Python, TypeScript, CDK, and CloudFormation technologies, with proven experience building and maintaining cloud-based applications.
  • 5+ years’ experience delivering highly available enterprise grade applications, including a strong focus on security, monitoring, observability, and production support.
  • Experience with the concepts and strategies behind Disaster Recovery (DR)/High Availability (HA) and resilient cloud-based applications
  • Skilled in utilizing tools such as Splunk, Datadog, and CloudWatch to extract insights and troubleshoot issues
  • Experience in responsibly and effectively using GenAI tooling such as GitHub Copilot
  • Experience working in Agile teams with a solid understanding of how to use agile metrics to inform areas of improvement
  • Excellent analytical skills as well as communication skills both verbal and written. Skilled at breaking down complex technical concepts and communicating them effectively to diverse audiences, from technical specialists to non-experts, adapting terminology and depth based on the listener's knowledge level
  • AWS Associate-level (or higher) certification preferred

Qualifications

Experience

  • Eight or more years of software engineering experience
  • Strong background in business operations and strategies, including global technology and financial services trends
  • Hands-on involvement with layered systems architectures, designs and shared software concepts
  • Familiarity with functional and system integration testing
  • Experience working in an agile environment

Skills

  • Excellent negotiation, facilitation and consensus-building capabilities
  • Openness and adaptability to respond to fast-moving circumstances
  • Proficiency in multiple object-oriented programming languages and tools
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Aptitude for working in teams

Knowledge

  • In-depth knowledge of diverse and emerging technologies, architectural concepts and principles
  • A deep understanding of layered solutions and designs
  • Awareness of policies regarding security and privacy
  • Understanding of backlog tracking, burndown metrics and incremental delivery

Education

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in a technical or business discipline, or equivalent experience

The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role.
