Description

Do you have the skills – and motivation – to maintain software that helps people in their day-to-day work?  Further, do you enjoy collaborating with a product owner, scrum master, and group of global contractors to support global underwriters for LM’s Surety business.  The team’s focus is to run activities keeping systems available.  Additionally, work that has to enhance & comply with our solutions while providing input into certain transformation work across the portfolio is core to this role.  As a senior software engineer at Liberty Mutual, you’ll apply your talents in an agile environment that has the creative energy of a start-up - and the full backing and comprehensive benefits of a Fortune 100 company.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborative partner: Working with our GRS Underwriting team of scrum masters, product owners and fellow engineers, you’ll tackle technical challenges and ensure quality as we move from legacy technologies to next-generation applications
  • Trusted steward:  Working with an experienced Product Owner among of team of peer software engineers, support a suite of Surety Underwriting products through the day-to-day, including
  • Comprehensive problem-solver: As you manage the end-to-end development of software products, you’ll analyze issues at the system level and handle any complications that arise by implementing effective solutions
  • Skilled technical engineer: You’ll document and lead the implementation of technical features, improvements and innovations
  • Forward thinker: Simply fixing the problem isn’t enough; using your proactive mindset and initiative, you’ll continually look for ways to improve performance, quality and efficiency

Qualifications

Qualifications:

 

  • A minimum of five years of software engineering experience
  • A background in business operations and strategies, with a focus on business IT
  • A history of translating client requirements into technical designs
  • Experience with troubleshooting, understanding the problem to be solved and working with existing code to source an issue, determine a solution, and make updates to deliver solutions
  • Agile engineering capabilities and a design-thinking mindset
  • Collaboration, adaptability, flexibility and the ability to manage time and prioritize work with a globally distributed development team
  • Strong oral and written communication skills - and a knack for explaining your decision-making process to non-engineers
  • A thorough grasp of IT concepts, business operations, design and development tools, system architecture and technical standards, shared software concepts and layered solutions and designs
  • Proficiency in software engineering languages and tools, requires Ruby on Rails (ROR) application ecosystem with important skills including Java, Angular, AWS, CDK, Bamboo, TypeScript, Cloud Foundry, React.
  • An understanding of how modifications affect different parts of a system and an ability to explain your decision-making process to non-engineers
  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in technical or business discipline, or equivalent experience

The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role.
