Description

As a strategic leader within the Agile team, the Product Owner III serves as the voice of the customer and the organization, driving the delivery of business value through a strong blend of technical product strategy, influential leadership, and deep technical product expertise. This role requires a visionary mindset, self-starter, with fluency in API ecosystems, and the ability to perform technical product analysis that informs scalable, data-driven decisions.

 

The Product Owner III leads by example building trust, fostering collaboration, and championing innovation. They work closely with stakeholders across business and technology, including executive leadership, to define and prioritize features and stories that deliver measurable impact. With a strong understanding of customer pain points and organizational goals, the Product Owner ensures the team is focused on the highest-impact work and is empowered to execute effectively.

 

Strategic Leadership & Vision

 

  • Lead the creation and communication of a compelling product vision that aligns with enterprise strategy and technical capabilities.
  • Influence portfolio-level direction and contribute to long-term strategic planning.
  • Inspire teams by translating complex customer needs and technical opportunities into a clear, actionable roadmap.

 

Product Strategy & Execution

 

  • Lead the development of product line roadmaps that reflect both strategic vision and technical feasibility, incorporating clear and measurable Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) to guide execution and track success.
  • Own and drive product-level KPIs, ensuring alignment with broader business goals and proactively adjusting strategy based on performance insights.
  • Provide strategic leadership across complex product domains, managing initiatives with significant scope, technical depth, and cross-functional impact.
  • Champion prioritization of the product backlog, balancing customer value, technical dependencies, and business outcomes. Guide teams in making informed trade-offs and aligning delivery with strategic priorities.

 

Stakeholder Engagement & Influence

 

  • Build strong relationships with executive sponsors, business leaders, and technical teams.
  • Set clear expectations for delivery and negotiate priorities across squads and portfolios.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor, aligning diverse stakeholders around shared goals and outcomes.

 

Technical Collaboration & Decision-Making

 

  • Partner with architects and engineering leads to ensure product decisions are technically sound and scalable.
  • Guide teams through feasibility assessments, cost-of-delay analyses, and system-level impact evaluations.
  • Monitor product health and proactively address technical risks and dependencies.
  • Empower squads by removing roadblocks, clarifying requirements, and reinforcing strategic alignment.
  • Promote autonomy and accountability within teams while maintaining strategic oversight.

 

Compliance, Risk & Ecosystem Awareness

 

  • Ensure product decisions comply with regulatory and industry standards.
  • Understand and communicate the ripple effects of product changes across the ecosystem.
  • Design monitoring frameworks to assess product performance and health.

 

 

Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge of Agile development methodologies as typically acquired through a Bachelors degree in relevant field (business, computer science, humanities etc.
  • 7 years in business, technology, or consulting with 5 to 7 years direct experience with agile teams
  • Master's degree preferred
  • High level of proven business expertise needed to set clear priorities for product and understand business value impacts
  • Develops strong stakeholder relationships and influencing across multiple organizational boundaries
  • Demonstrated experience leading varied audiences through the development of complex ideas, issues and designs
  • Ability to lead varied audiences through census building
  • Proven experience with Agile practices and expectations
  • Comfortable with making decisions with some level of uncertainty
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Knowledge of insurance industry preferred
  • Knowledge of relevant products and portfolio strongly preferred
  • Strong experimental mindset to drive innovation amongst uncertainty and exploit market opportunities

Pay Philosophy: The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
