Description

We are hiring an Engineering Manager to shape the future of Liberty Mutual’s Personal Lines Marketing. Our Marketing portfolio leverages technology to capture, nurture, and convert profitable growth opportunities; we intelligently optimize how we identify opportunities and activate them with the right marketing tactics at scale.

This is a hands-on leadership role at the forefront of delivery and engineering excellence. You will lead high-performing teams that build secure, reliable, and scalable platforms and services. You will partner closely with Experience Teams, Engineering and Architecture Leadership, and Marketing stakeholders to translate strategy into outcomes, deliver modern software solutions, and continually raise the bar on quality, speed, and impact.

If you thrive on building strong teams, focusing on customer-centric platforms, and creating a culture of learning and accountability, this is your opportunity to drive meaningful change in a mission-critical portfolio.

What you’ll do

  • Turn strategy into shipped outcomes: Partner with Experience, Architecture and Engineering to translate the Marketing platform strategy into actionable team roadmaps aligned to enterprise goals and frameworks.
  • Lead and grow cross-functional squads: Recruit, mentor, and develop engineers; build an inclusive, high-trust culture focused on learning, accountability, and results.
  • Own end-to-end delivery and operations: Plan, prioritize, and deliver capabilities; own reliability, security, performance, and cost for your services from design through production.
  • Champion engineering and architectural excellence: Facilitate design reviews, guide technical decisions, and ensure adherence to the Liberty Mutual Enterprise Well-Architected Framework in partnership with architects.
  • Raise the quality bar: Embed modern SDLC practices including CI/CD, test automation, trunk-based development, infrastructure as code, and observability; drive measurable improvements using DORA metrics, SLAs/SLOs, and defect/incident trends.
  • Align teams to vision and value: Deeply understand the business domain and product vision; co-define KPIs/OKRs with Product to measure impact and inform prioritization.
  • Remove obstacles and accelerate flow: Monitor team effectiveness, proactively clear roadblocks, manage interdependencies, and escalate with clarity when needed.
  • Communicate with influence: Translate technical trade-offs and risks into clear, compelling narratives for diverse stakeholders, from engineers to senior leaders.
  • Orchestrate cross-portfolio delivery: Coordinate with architects and external teams to identify, communicate, and mitigate technical dependencies and risks across data, platform, security, analytics, and marketing operations.
  • Partner to launch marquee initiatives: Collaborate with the USRM Frontier team as we bring UIP to market; drive engineering readiness, integrations, and production launch success.
  • Build strong partnerships: Develop trusted relationships with internal clients, business and technology leaders, and vendors to increase efficiency, effectiveness, and shared outcomes.
  • Manage talent and performance: Set clear expectations, deliver timely feedback, conduct performance reviews, and create growth opportunities including mentoring, rotations, and special assignments.
  • Optimize capacity and spend: Own capacity planning and contribute to financial planning for your portfolio; apply FinOps practices to manage cloud and vendor costs and improve total cost of ownership.
  • Make smart build-vs-buy calls: Lead evaluations, selections, and implementations of new technologies and SaaS offerings in partnership with Architecture and Procurement.
  • Ensure production readiness and learning: Lead change management, on-call, incident response, and post-incident reviews to reduce toil and strengthen reliability.
  • Standardize with pragmatism: Establish and evolve team-level standards, methodologies, and best practices that align with enterprise guidance while enabling speed and autonomy.
  • Streamline vendor engagements: Coordinate vendor onboarding, offboarding, and day-to-day collaboration to ensure consistency, quality, and security.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of technology concepts, strategies and methodologies typically acquired through a Bachelor`s or Master`s Degree in technical or business discipline and a minimum of five years’ experience in a practice relevant domain including delivering software solutions in an agile environment.
  • 3 years in a leadership role preferred.
  • Able to manage complex technology development concepts, capabilities and maturity.
  • Requires excellent analytical ability, consultative, communication, presentation and management skills, strong judgment and ability to effectively liaise with cross functional stakeholders and optimize teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate collaboratively and build consensus. In-depth knowledge of technology standards and guidelines; knowledge of management concepts, practices and techniques; thorough knowledge of business functions and operations, objectives and strategies.
