The Opportunity

 

Join Evergreen — Liberty Mutual’s multi-year, business-led and technology-enabled transformation of our Workers’ Compensation line. Reporting to the Senior Director of Technology (Tech lead for Evergreen Program), you will focus on a delivery track’s architectural and solution design: translating strategy into detailed designs and implementation prototypes, defining integration patterns, and partnering with architects and engineers to deliver secure, scalable, and resilient systems.

 

As a trusted advisor on the program’s technical leadership team, you’ll champion architectural and engineering excellence, drive cross-domain decisions, and influence roadmaps and delivery approaches. Responsibilities:

 

  • Partner daily with Product Owners, Solution Architects, Scrum Masters, and the RTE to lead detailed architectural design and example implementations for a set of product domains in Evergreen. Prepare the execution team with shovel-ready work while ensure scalable, secure, and well-architected solutions, as well as the alignment with North Star Architecture; solve cross-track technical dependencies, remove impediments, and hit program milestones.
  • Mentor software engineers and guide detailed implementation decisions to ensure adherence to the Evergreen technical standards.
  • Raise the bar for engineering excellence, build an open, continuous learning, and continuous improvement engineering culture
  • Being an advocate and a pioneer to operationalize AI in a large-scale program
  • Establish and maintain program-wide architecture and engineering standards, methodologies, and best practices to ensure consistency and quality.
  • Act as a thought leader within the engineering discipline, influencing cross-program technical decisions and promoting architectural excellence across the organization.
  • Coordinate with architects and external teams to identify, communicate, and mitigate technical dependencies and risks.
  • Support business-technology roadmaps by effectively communicating technical risks and considerations to diverse stakeholders.

 

Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge of software engineering and architectural principles, with a bachelor’s degree and 7+ years of related experience.
  • Strong hands-on design and development experience with Evergreen tech stack and emerging technologies, with preference for experience across legacy, current, and new technologies.
    • Evergreen tech stack: Java · Spring Boot · Typescript · AWS (EKS, Lambda, S3, RDS, API Gateway) · Apigee · Docker · Guidewire Cloud Platform (SaaS version) · Event Streaming · CI/CD (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, TeamCity) · Datadog/Splunk for observability
  • Proven success designing and delivering large-scale, cloud-native, API-first systems on AWS, leveraging modern DevSecOps, IaC, CI/CD, containerization and orchestration (Docker/Kubernetes/EKS), and end-to-end observability and security practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate business strategy into actionable technical roadmaps, and articulate ROI for engineering investments.
  • Experience with data migration strategies and a strong understanding of layered solution designs and security concepts.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of technical architecture components and emerging architectural concepts and principles.
  • In-depth understanding of business operations, objectives, global technology trends, and the financial services industry.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, facilitation, and consensus-building skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all organizational levels.
  • An ability to collaborate effectively across diverse teams and present complex ideas clearly both verbally and in writing.

 

Candidates with the following will be given preference:

  • Experience in the insurance domain, Workers Compensation, or claims
  • Design of end-to-end solutions as an architect; proven Tech Lead for agile teams and the ability to work through others
  • Hands-on PredictiveAI/GenAI/AgenticAI production implementations
  • Ability to communicate complex Architecture and Engineering concepts to non-technical stakeholders and influence decision-makers with a calm, measured style.
  • Background or involvement in modernization initiatives and a strong knowledge of Enterprise Well-Architected Frameworks from cloud providers like AWS, Azure, GCP, or proprietary in-house frameworks, familiarity with Guidewire cloud platform
  • Proficiency with domain-driven and API-first architectures
