Description

We are seeking an experienced Data Platform Engineering Manager to lead data governance platform engineering (incl. security and Enterprise Retention Management) and sustain critical legacy data solutions ("Sustaining 95" - sustained profitability) while supporting the upcoming Guidewire (GW) integration initiatives. This role sits within USRM Tech’s Data Analytics and Engineering (DAE) team, focusing on delivering scalable, secure, and reliable data platforms that empower data-driven decision making across Personal Lines business domains. 

As Engineering Manager, you will lead agile data engineering squads responsible for data governance implementation and platform maintenance and enabling and consulting Frontier data integration efforts. You will partner closely with Product Owners, cross-functional teams, architecture and stakeholders to ensure high-quality data solutions that maintain operational excellence, excellent engineering practices and support modernization efforts. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Lead and manage multiple Agile squads of data engineers focused on Sustaining 95 and implementing data governance platforms and best practices. 
  • Oversee delivery excellence, capacity planning, and partner/vendor management for staff augmentation and contractor resources. 
  • Champion data quality, security, stable system operations, and engineering excellence. 
  • Collaborate with product owners and business partners to align backlog and priorities with organizational vision and objectives. 
  • Facilitate platform support, incident resolution, and incremental enhancement to maintain operational stability. 
  • Enable and consult on Guidewire integration projects, leveraging deep knowledge of GW data models, schema changes, and ingestion frameworks. 
  • Partner with data architects, application teams, enterprise integration services, and EDATA (corporate) technology leaders to implement seamless data platform governance and migration to Frontier (Claims Center, Policy Center, Billing Center), providing solutioning expertise aligned with EDATA corporate technology standards and frameworks. Additionally, collaborate with EDATA and business unit stakeholders to manage, monitor, and optimize data platform costs, ensuring cost-effective solutions that support corporate budgeting and financial goals. 
  • Evangelize Agile engineering practices, continuous integration/delivery (CI/CD), and HPE software development methodologies and practices. 
  • Mentor and coach teams in a geographically distributed environment to foster a high-performance, collaborative culture. 
  • Influence technical roadmaps related to data governance, platform modernization, and GW integration strategies. 
  • Support change management and stakeholder engagement to enhance the organization’s data platform capabilities. 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a technical or business discipline; master’s preferred. 
  • 5+ years hands-on experience with data platforms, data warehousing, data lakes, and analytics technologies, including cloud platforms (AWS, Snowflake). 
  • 3+ years in a leadership role managing data engineering teams in a matrixed, geographically distributed organization. 
  • Proven expertise in sustaining data systems and managing ongoing platform stability. 
  • Strong experience with Guidewire data models, integration points, and/or data ingestion and governance approaches, preferably including Data Lake or Lake House architectures. 
  • Familiarity with data governance frameworks, data quality, and security best practices. 
  • Proven leader in identifying, reducing technical debt, and optimizing total cost of ownership to enhance platform efficiency and sustainability. 
  • Deep knowledge of Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) and tools (Jira, Slack, VersionOne). 
  • Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills. 
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams through modernization and re-platforming initiatives. 
  • Experience with Informatica IDMC or comparable ETL & Governance tools. 
  • Understanding of Personal Lines insurance business and data considerations is a strong plus.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of technology concepts, strategies and methodologies typically acquired through a Bachelor`s or Master`s Degree in technical or business discipline and a minimum of five years’ experience in a practice relevant domain including delivering software solutions in an agile environment.
  • 3 years in a leadership role preferred.
  • Able to manage complex technology development concepts, capabilities and maturity.
  • Requires excellent analytical ability, consultative, communication, presentation and management skills, strong judgment and ability to effectively liaise with cross functional stakeholders and optimize teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate collaboratively and build consensus. In-depth knowledge of technology standards and guidelines; knowledge of management concepts, practices and techniques; thorough knowledge of business functions and operations, objectives and strategies.

The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role.
