Description

The Company:

Liberty Mutual Investments (LMI) manages Liberty Mutual Insurance Group’s (LMIG) global financial assets across global markets and private domains to build capital and generate income. With over $100 billion in assets under management (AUM) and a team of nearly 300 investment, finance, and operations professionals located in Boston, MA, and New York, NY, LMI offers the best of both worlds — the look and feel of a boutique investment firm with the reputation and financial strength of a global leader.

LMI has been on a transformation path to spur innovation, capitalize on deep expertise, and scale its returns on long-term flexible capital through a “one firm, one portfolio, one team” mindset. Our operating model is built on three pillars: centralized portfolio construction, asset management, and investment-enabling services. The teams are structured as Investment Business Units (IBUs) working in concert: Global Strategy & Capital Allocation, Risk Management, Global Credit Markets, Global Alternative Markets, Global Liquid Markets, and Global Investment Solutions. Our portfolio spans a broad spectrum of public and private asset classes, and we are committed to expanding our capabilities and our toolkit in furtherance of our mission.

The Position:

As a member of the Risk Management Team, the Senior Analyst will support risk analysis, monitoring and framework development across Liberty Mutual Investments with initial focus on portfolio data, process improvements and reporting needs. This individual will be responsible for automating workflows, enhancing existing processes, and building new reporting solutions to drive transparency and operational efficiency. Additionally, the Senior Analyst will identify and develop AI-driven use cases to generate deeper risk insights and strengthen analytical capabilities across the platform.

In addition to wide-ranging contributions to risk management and monitoring, this Risk Management professional will help to elevate the firm's risk culture of constructive inquiry and advocate for the broader risk framework, which forms an integral part of LMI's investment process.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and advance Liberty Mutual Investments’ risk management framework, ensuring alignment with the firm's investment strategy and governance objectives.
  • Enhance risk identification, monitoring, and mitigation capabilities by contributing to risk data initiatives, process automation efforts, and development of advanced reporting solutions.
  • Collaborate with investment and technology teams to implement process & reporting enhancements that deliver forward-looking, actionable risk insights across LMI mandates.
  • Own and maintain key portfolio analytics such as capital charge and credit loss metrics, ensuring data integrity and consistency across Snowflake, Moody’s platforms, and internal reporting systems.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly portfolio risk review materials and support ad hoc analysis in response to evolving market conditions or internal requests.
  • Identify and develop AI-driven use cases to deepen risk insights, enable pro forma risk analysis, and drive operational efficiency across the investment platform.

Qualifications

A degree in Finance, Economics, or technical field and 3-5 years of relevant work experience is required. A graduate degree would be a plus.

The ideal candidate must also bring the following qualifications:

  • A demonstrated passion for risk management and a strong desire to deepen expertise in investment risk and analytics.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard tools such as Bloomberg, Aladdin, and other financial databases like Snowflake, as well as programming proficiency in Python, R, SQL, and Excel VBA.
  • Foundational knowledge of major asset classes and their risk characteristics, including equities, fixed income, and alternative investments.
  • Proven ability to lead and drive projects to successful completion through cross-functional collaboration.
  • A self-starter with strong intellectual curiosity, strategic thinking, and excellent problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively across a range of investment and support functions.
