Job summary:

 

The Personal Lines Policy team within the US Retail Markets (USRM) organization is where we design, build, and evolve modern, best-in-class Policy Platform software solutions for Personal Lines insurance products. 

 

The team is looking to hire a Principal Gen AI Developer who will apply their talent in a hybrid agile environment that has the creative and technical passion of a start-up and the full backing and comprehensive benefits of a Fortune 100 company. This is a fast-paced role where you’ll rapidly iterate and deliver on software, while bringing your talents to the table as a strategic shaper of our success. You will be working in a highly collaborative, team-oriented environment that values speed and quality, with a strong focus on driving continuous improvement.

 

This role is perfect for someone with a passion for cutting-edge generative AI, a strong software engineering background, and the creative spark to identify and implement novel use cases within our product. You will play a critical role in adding AI capabilities to our Insurance (Insur-Tech) API platform space. Whether it's enhancing user workflows, automating insights, or inventing entirely new product experiences, you’ll have both the freedom and support to experiment and execute.

About the job:

  • Design, build, and deploy generative AI-powered features across our product.
  • Identify opportunities for AI integration by proactively exploring use cases and user needs
  • Prototype and validate new AI use cases quickly and iterate based on internal and external feedback
  • Champion AI-driven transformation across teams by identifying high-impact use cases and prioritizing implementation efforts
  • Create prompt libraries that support scalable communication, onboarding, success planning, and project management
  • Collaborate with team leads to spot manual, repetitive processes and reimagine them with AI solutions and tooling
  • Continuously test, improve, and document new AI workflows to share knowledge across the departments
  • Maintain complex data integrations for our systems
  • Help build a culture of AI curiosity and experimentation
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, and backend teams to drive innovation from concept to production
  • Stay current with the fast-moving generative AI landscape and evaluate new models, APIs, and tools (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic, Hugging Face, AWS Bedrock, open-source LLMs). 
  • Live in the future and track new innovations and paradigms in this fast-evolving field, and identify opportunities to integrate them into the product
  • Implement safeguards, prompt engineering techniques, and usage monitoring to ensure high-quality AI outputs
  • Optimize model performance, inference time, and cost efficiency within our cloud & on-prem infrastructure

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field; relevant certifications are a plus.
  • Minimum 8+ years of hands-on experience in Software engineering experience.
  • Minimum 3+ experience with leading projects focused on GenAI development, workflow automation, or technical operations, with demonstrated ability to lead end-to-end projects in fast-paced environments (GenAI examples - LLMs, diffusion models, multimodal models, etc.).
  • Strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, and software engineering principles, with proficiency in languages like Python or Java.
  • Practical experience integrating machine learning or AI capabilities into real-world systems, preferably within platform API workflows that support consumer facing UIs, and event-driven architectures that integrate with relational and NoSQL Databases.
  • Strong command of generative AI platforms (OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, etc.) and the ability to build tools that serve real team needs.
  • Demonstrated experience in operations and process creation, with a strong ability to identify inefficiencies and implement scalable, AI-driven solutions
  • Engineering background with strong software development skills, including experience building AI-powered applications and tools.
  • Fluency in Java, Python, Node.js, or similar languages used in ML and full-stack development.
  • Experience with prompt engineering, fine-tuning, or embedding models using frameworks like LangChain, LlamaIndex, or similar, and the ability to design effective, context-aware prompt frameworks.
  • Familiarity with Apache Kafka, Springboot, Kubernetes, AWS services and best practices, including Lambda, S3, SageMaker, ECS/EKS, Bedrock etc.
  • A self-starter mindset with strong self-learning capabilities and the ability to move fast and adapt in an ever-evolving AI environment.
  • Highly independent and proactive, with a strong ability to learn, execute, manage priorities and create initiatives.
  • Experience with MLOps and model deployment practices (e.g., containerization, GPU inference, vector databases).
  • Creativity and initiative able to pitch and prototype ideas with minimal oversight.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role.
