Description

Liberty Mutual is seeking a highly qualified attorney with approximately 8 to 15 years of experience in complex alternative real estate transactions. This exciting opportunity offers the opportunity to collaborate closely with Liberty Mutual’ growing real estate investment team, focusing on a wide range of sophisticated real estate investments and structures, including joint venture, equity, and debt, and a variety of strategies, including core and opportunistic asset classes.  A key responsibility includes drafting complex term sheets and conducting preliminary negotiations to evaluate deal alignment before involving external legal counsel.

  

As Counsel, you will be joining a collegial and experienced team of attorneys responsible for providing legal assistance to Liberty Mutual Group's investment team. You will provide legal advice and carry out actions which have an impact upon the rights, privileges, and responsibilities of the company while maintaining high standards of legal and business ethics and professional responsibility.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic counsel on complex real estate transactions involving equity and debt structures, joint ventures, funds, co-investments and related investment vehicles.
  • Structure and negotiate, alongside the real estate investments team, joint ventures, investment management agreements, and partnerships with strategic partners.
  • Collaborate with outside counsel to ensure high-quality, timely, and cost-effective legal support on transactions.
  • Assist accounting, tax, and risk teams to properly identify and adhere to company and regulatory standards.
  • Manage and lead the legal due diligence components of real estate transactions, regarding the acquisition, operation, financing, and disposition of assets within joint ventures and partnerships.
  • Maintain current knowledge of legal issues and trends affecting real estate investments to provide proactive, informed guidance.
  • Develop and enhance internal processes and best practices to streamline transaction execution.

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience structuring and negotiating complex real estate transactions
  • Completion of law school with a J.D. or L.L.B. degree and admission to the bar of at least one jurisdiction in the United States required.
  • Experience in corporate legal department or firm required
  • Generally, requires at least eight years' experience as a practicing attorney.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct research and analysis of legal issues.
