About the Role

Security Operations (SecOps), Liberty Mutual’s physical security team, is dedicated to enabling the success of our global organization by proactively protecting our people, assets, and operations in an increasingly complex threat landscape. We leverage technology, data-driven intelligence, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver integrated security solutions and manage risk to our offices. SecOps is searching for a highly productive, experienced risk manager, who is comfortable balancing strategic initiatives with operational execution in fast-paced, high-visibility environments. You’ll be responsible for physical security risk for the Northeast region, serving as the  physical security manager for all offices in this region, including our corporate headquarters.  You will also have vendor management oversight of our guard force and management oversight of our GSOC.

Reporting to the Director of Security Operations and based in our headquarters, this role offers significant executive visibility, cross-functional collaboration, and the opportunity to shape both tactical execution and long-range strategic security posture.

 

What You'll Lead:

 

Strategic Security & Risk Leadership

  • Develop and implement a physical security risk strategy across New York and New England that aligns with enterprise risk tolerance, real estate strategy, and evolving threat environments.
  • Serve as the security manager at our global headquarters, ensuring high standards for executive protection, site resilience, and workplace safety.
  • Participate in strategic capital planning, site selection, and senior-level discussions around physical risk of office locations.

GSOC Strategy & Management Oversight

  • Provide strategic leadership to our Global Security Operations Center (GSOC), ensuring 24/7 situational awareness, efficient escalation protocols, and dynamic threat monitoring.
  • Partner with our protective intelligence, business continuity & resilience teams as well as global counterparts to expand the GSOC’s capabilities in supporting both domestic and international operations

Security Vendor Management

  • Lead performance oversight and governance of third-party security guard & GSOC vendor.
  • Champion consistency in security service delivery and develop metrics-based oversight that reflects brand alignment and stakeholder expectations.

Security Design and Risk Assessment

  • Lead the strategic design and implementation of physical security solutions for new office builds, renovations, and relocations, balancing robust risk mitigation with business needs and exceptional employee experience
  • Drive the continuous enhancement of our risk assessment program, including the evolution of risk modeling methodologies to proactively address emerging threats.
  • Proactively identify and assess emerging and evolving risks in your region, ensuring our security posture stays ahead of industry trends and potential threats.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Security Management, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 7–10 years of progressive experience in physical security, law enforcement, military, or corporate security, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership role within a corporate environment managing risk for multiple sites. 
  • Certified Protection Professional (CPP) designation strongly preferred; other relevant certifications (e.g., PSP, CISSP) are a plus.

 

Technical & Operational Expertise

  • Deep knowledge of physical security principles, including access control, surveillance systems, intrusion detection, and perimeter protection.
  • Proficiency in conducting threat assessments, risk analysis, and vulnerability audits.
  • Familiarity with emergency response planning, crisis management, and business continuity protocols.
  • Understanding of regulatory compliance standards such as PCI-DSS, OSHA, and applicable local/state/federal laws.

 

Leadership & Communication

  • Proven experience managing cross-functional security teams and external vendors or contractors.
  • Strong leadership, decision-making, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present to executive leadership and collaborate across departments.
  • Experience in developing and delivering security awareness and training programs.

 

Other Requirements

  • Ability to travel as needed and respond to incidents outside of normal business hours.
  • High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism in handling sensitive information.

The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
