Description

The GRS U.S. Middle Market Office of Underwriting team is hiring a Director to support key industry segments including Technology, Services, Real Estate, Retail.  This technical professional will use their deep technical expertise in commercial property casualty insurance to understand drivers to risk and performance and create consistent underwriting strategy, guidelines/reference material, and capabilities for lines of business written with these industries

 

This role reports to the Executive Underwriting Officer for Multi-industry

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with the Middle Market Underwriting Officers, the director proactively guides and participates in analysis of performance drivers to create and deliver industry-specific underwriting strategy and guidelines
  • Researches and develops strategies to address emerging risks and opportunities, as well as potential for exposure aggregation
  • Creates underwriting reference and guidance materials (including creation and delivery of applicable training) to support profitable execution
  • Supports creation of, and assists in delivering risk selection tools and capabilities
  • Stays up to date on business and macro trends to incorporate into strategies
  • May provide subject matter expertise and advisory support on referrals
  • Manages moderate to high complexity multi-function projects, often including managing the work stream of others
  • Conducts GRS Underwriting Quality Assurance file audits.

 

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of product offerings, business processes, product line systems, underwriting rules, pricing plans and databases
  • Understanding of commercial property/casualty insurance and actuarial concepts and financial metrics
  • Objective and results-oriented with ability to deliver change in a complex insurance environment

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, economics, or other quantitative field
  • Minimum 7, typically 10 years or more of relevant work experience
  • Master's degree and/or ACAS or similar designation beneficial
  • Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, and data analysis software (SAS, Access)
  • Must have good planning, organizational, analytical, decision-making and communication skills
  • Experience managing projects preferred
