Description

  • Reengineer the way USDS approaches the entire modeling pipeline.
  • Architect and construct modeling tools and pipelines to massively enhance the ease of iteration, evaluation, and deployment of models and thereby enhance the productivity of the entire USDS department by orders of magnitude.
  • Build tools and processes to empower other people.
  • Create and maintain inner source Python packages for data scientists.
  • Promote new tools and tool updates through department wide channels including text articles, emails, and presentations.
  • Run batch model scoring jobs for pricing teams as needed (minimum monthly).
  • Hold weekly programming office hours for data scientists in USDS to solve their coding problems.
  • Domestic travel up to 10% required.
  • Telecommuting permitted up to 60%.

Qualifications

Employer will accept a bachelor's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Data Science, Computer Systems Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a related field and four (4) years of experience in the job offered or in a related occupation.

 

Position requires demonstrable experience in the following:

  • Insurance pricing and underwriting.
  • Insurance statistical modeling in Emblem, including input data creation and output model formats.
  • Ability to write Python and SQL with production level ML Ops code standards including modular and tested code.
  • Version control with git.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform open-source Python package development with Github including Github Projects and Issues, Github Actions, Pull Requests, automated linting and formatting, and test-driven development.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the data science modeling process from dataset creation through model deployment, including feature engineering and statistical modeling.
  • Statistical modeling including GLMs, GBMs, Random Forest, clustering, and neural networks.
    Modeling pipelines using Airflow, Luigi and MLFlow.
  • AWS cloud infrastructure (EC2, EMR and S3).
  • Current state of the Python open-source ecosystem packages including polars, pandas, h2o, sklearn, lightgbm.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate within a large organization and move the company forward with new technological solutions.
  • Communicating, mentoring, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to gain trust of data scientists and partner with them to solve their coding problems.
  • Domestic travel up to 10% required.
  • Telecommuting permitted up to 60%.
