Liberty Mutual is seeking a highly experienced Senior Resident Attorney to lead and oversee the legal operations and litigation management of a medium to large office. Reporting to the Regional General Attorney, you will manage multiple teams, drive strategic initiatives, and ensure the delivery of high-quality legal services that align with organizational objectives. This leadership role demands strong operational acumen, advanced litigation expertise, and commitment to mentoring attorneys and managers to achieve excellence.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Team Leadership and Management: Lead and manage a diverse team, including an Attorney Manager, to ensure the delivery of high-quality legal services that align with organizational objectives.
  • Strategic Operational Management: Optimize office legal operations, including advanced resource allocation and budget management. Develop and implement strategic initiatives aligned with the organization's broader objectives.
  • Advanced Litigation Oversight: Manage and improve all litigation activities within the office, ensuring representation meets high standards. Mentor attorneys on effective litigation strategies and best practices.
  • Comprehensive Caseload Management: Oversee fair and strategic distribution of cases based on complexity and attorney expertise. Use performance metrics and data to monitor case progress and outcomes, identifying trends and driving improvements.
  • Quality Assurance Leadership: Establish and maintain quality assurance protocols. Conduct compliance reviews to ensure adherence to company policies and legal standards, taking corrective action as needed.
  • Strategic Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong working relationships with claims leadership and key stakeholders to improve litigation and claims processing.
  • Innovative Process Improvement: Identify and champion innovative solutions that improve legal service delivery, increase efficiency, and reduce costs.
  • Compliance Advocacy: Foster a culture of integrity and compliance, ensuring legal practices meet industry regulations and uphold corporate values and ethical standards

 

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) or LLB from an accredited law school; admitted to the Bar in good standing.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience as a practicing trial attorney with significant litigation and management experience.
  • Proven leadership in managing medium to large legal offices or teams (8-10+ attorneys and managers).
  • Extensive knowledge of insurance defense litigation, including auto, premises liability, and general liability.
  • Strong operational management skills with demonstrated ability to lead office metrics and workflows.
  • Expertise in risk assessment and mitigation, legal compliance, and ethical practices.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills to influence senior leadership and cross-functional partners.
  • Track record of driving innovation, process improvements, and strategic initiatives within legal operations.
  • Ability to build trusted client relationships and provide proactive legal guidance aligned with business objectives.

The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
