Analyst, Private Equity - Liberty Mutual Investments

The Position:

We are currently seeking an Analyst to join our Global Alternative Markets group.  This individual will be an integral member of the Private Equity team, helping to manage the firm’s investment activities across the leveraged buyout, growth equity, and venture capital markets.  The candidate will participate end-to-end in the investment process including market research, underwriting, and ongoing portfolio management.  The individual hired will be meaningfully involved in direct/co-investments and primary fund commitments.

Responsibilities:

• Contribute as an integral member of the Private Equity team to invest in private equity opportunities across the leveraged buyout, growth equity, and venture capital markets.
• Support investment diligence from start to finish, performing comprehensive analysis and financial modeling on equity direct/co-investments and fund commitments.
• Effectively screen new opportunities, identifying and succinctly communicating the most relevant investment highlights and key risk considerations.
• Support the development of investment committee materials (complete with financial projections) and help present the team’s investment recommendations to internal investment committees.
• Actively monitor existing investments; provide detailed updates to team members during scheduled portfolio reviews and on an ad-hoc basis as needed.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with additional LMI teams including Legal, Finance, Accounting, and Risk Management to execute transactions and manage the portfolio.

• 1 – 3 years of relevant work experience in private equity, investment banking, or consulting
• Excellent written and verbal communication; can clearly articulate relevant key learnings and insights derived during investment diligence.
• Strong interpersonal skills; comfortable with consensus decision-making and working in a collaborative, team-based environment.
• Proficient in Excel modeling and PowerPoint presentation development
• Self-starter with a willingness to be flexible and take on additional responsibilities depending on the needs of the business.
• Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and time-sensitive deliverables with a high degree of quality and accuracy.
• Minimum of a Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or related field from a leading institution.

Pay Philosophy: The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications, and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
