The GRS Tech Data & Analytics team is focused on delivering best in class data, analytics, and digital content Tech solutions to Global Risk Solutions. Data and Analytics is a strategic business and technology priority for Global Risk Solutions. We are looking to evolve and transform our current data ecosystem and capabilities to the next level. We are searching for a passionate engineering leader to work as the Foundational Data Technology Senior Director. This leader will be a trusted advisor to the GRS leadership and work closely with the GRS Data Office and Business and Technology partners to deliver core data platform and capabilities to deliver efficient and innovative business data products and solutions. In this position, you will lead a team of Data Technology professionals to build and support a portfolio of data platforms, capabilities and services used by our global and local business units.

 

Leads the strategic design and development of new systems across multiple environments and business groups. Incorporates best development practices and adheres to and advances the software development lifecycle. Partners with Directors and business clients to create effective development teams that support the business needs from idea to production. Leads support for a portfolio of applications. Drives and implements change and continuous improvement. Maintains breadth and depth of perspective, utilizing enterprise and industry/market trends. Builds a high performing organization.

 

About the role:

  • Directs the strategic design of new systems across multiple environments and business groups. Implements business and/or I/S vision, critical success factors and operating plans ensures the implementation and use of best software development practices.
  • Communicates department/enterprise vision, strategies, critical success factors and plans develops high level plans.
  • Anticipates and manages technology evolution and relates it to business solutions. Sets high level direction based on knowledge of industry trends, overall technology standards, and alignment to the business.
  • Hires and manages lower level managers coaches and counsels managers regarding management techniques.
  • Determines and manages staffing strategy and plan (# of FTEs, skills needed, depth of experience, internal and external staffing mix) consistent with the needs of the department.
  • Defines department objectives and identifies and addresses group development needs to create high performance software development organization.
  • Initiates and fosters business partnerships with current and potential clients, vendors, I/S executives, and senior business executives develops relationships that promote trust and increase efficiency and effectiveness balances individual client needs with business priorities assuring alignment with the business strategies and objectives.
  • Oversees the development, implementation and execution of multiple projects ensuring scope and schedule are established for projects oversees operating plan and resource allocation for the department, including prioritization and staff deployment acts based on changed priorities.
  • Jointly establishes financial targets with business partners and ensures that projects deliver to plan.
  • Develops and maintains a network of industry contacts performs or directs research on industry trends, competitors, business and IT products analyzes trends and makes strategic and tactical recommendations.
  • Ensures system, technical and product architectures are aligned with business objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in technical or business discipline or related experience; Master's Degree preferred.
  • Generally a minimum of 15 years related experience with 5 years in leadership role desirable.
  • Strong understanding of data lakehouse architecture and data warehouse concepts.
  • Extensive experience with data pipeline technologies (e.g., Azure Data Factory, AWS Glue, Google Cloud Data Fusion, Apache Spark, Apache Kafka, or similar).
  • Proficiency in data modeling and data governance practices.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, Google Cloud) and hybrid cloud environments and their respective data lake services (e.g., S3, Azure Data Lake Storage, GCP Cloud Storage).
  • Experience with data security and access control mechanisms.
  • Ability to promote a team environment consisting of several teams.
  • Highly developed negotiation, facilitation and consensus building skills.
  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills; strong presentation skills.

The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
