Pay Philosophy

The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

Description

Due to our continued growth, the North America Programs team within Global Risk Solutions (GRS) is seeking an experienced delegated authority underwriter to join our award-winning team. In this newly created role, you will lead the development and oversight of processes that govern the oversight of revenue, claims, exposure, and receivables data. You will work with finance, claims, operations, underwriting, and our external partners to establish and maintain processes that ensure data integrity and proactively identify underwriting trends. In addition to overseeing the bordereau processes, you will underwrite new program opportunities and support NA programs leadership with onboarding and underwriting analysis of new

business opportunities.

Responsibilities:

      

  • Manages a portfolio of projects to include monthly premium and claims bordereau processing, data strategies, and methodologies for curating structured and unstructured data.
  • Works both autonomously and collaboratively to identify, design, develop, and deploy data and technology solutions to meet or exceed internal and external expectations
  • Leads routine production and validation of data deliverables, overseeing stakeholder engagement, prioritization and planning, and communication. Continuously seeks improvement and enhancement opportunities within new and existing processes.
  • Defines the business case with input from stakeholders. Identifies and gains agreement on project objectives, scope, timing, and resources. Prioritizes and develops implementation plan to execute on critical tasks.
  • Proactively identifies project risks and proposes solution-oriented strategies.
  • Identifies opportunities for optimal resourcing of standard work, including technology solutions while leveraging GRS and industry models
  • Analyzes the use of new and existing systems and tools to streamline workflows.
  • Plans activities/tasks that will deliver the desired results and oversees day-to-day work and monitoring of progress towards goals. Ensures resources are optimally sourced and deployed.
  • Conducts project meetings and prepares regular reports to communicate the status of projects to stakeholders within and beyond the project team.
  • Establishes and evaluates opportunities for operational excellence & process improvements.
  • Adeptly builds consensus and gains buy-in among stakeholders.
  • Escalates and works to resolve issues that serve as roadblocks and/or place project objectives at risk. Including identifying critical stakeholders in product, actuarial, reinsurance, finance, and claims.
  • Manages project governance (steering) and sponsors and identifies and provides visibility into trade-offs between options, while strongly influencing recommended approach to project leaders.
  • Supports NA Programs leadership with underwriting and onboarding of new business opportunities

  • Demonstrates cultural awareness and inclusivity, and the ability to work with and influence varied customer groups effectively.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Degree in Business or equivalent typically required
  • A minimum of 7 years expected, typically 10 years or more, of progressive underwriting experience and/or other related business experience
  • CPCU or professional insurance designation preferred
  • Proven analytical ability to evaluate and judge underwriting risks within scope of responsibility
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex analyses and information in understandable written and/or oral directives to other persons in the organization for underwriting or training purposes
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills in dealing with internal and external stakeholders
  • Must demonstrate comprehension of most complex technical underwriting issues and be capable of defining and implementing necessary underwriting and administrative processes/workflows to properly manage or administer those issues
  • Proven track record of developing and underwriting profitable business
