The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

As part of the UW Strategy team within Small CL Product Management, the Assistant Director, Product Analysis will partner with line of business product directors to support the high-impact UW strategy for our new product build outs and existing package, BOP, property, GL, and umbrella across our Small Commercial UW segments. 

 

The UW Strategy team is responsible for developing the Small Commercial underwriting strategy. We are focused on: 

  1. Perpetually improving our UW ecosystem in the pursuit of excellence in risk selection outcomes
  2. Providing our underwriters with tools and solutions that optimize efficiency and execution
  3. Ensuring our appetite:

a.   Provides agency partners with solutions for a significant proportion of the market

b.   Supports our goal to consistently achieve target profitability

c.   Is simple and intuitive for internal and external users

 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the monitoring of managed product lines, analyzing data from underwriting rules and questions, customer feedback, and pass-through rates. Based on analysis, provide recommendations for system enhancements and adjustments to the underwriting strategy
  • Support line of business product directors in managing high-visibility cross-functional projects to meet growth and profitability objectives for Small Commercial
  • Assist line of business product directors by identifying opportunities to implement innovative solutions that refine risk selection capabilities, enhance UW efficiency, and improve ease-of-doing-business for agency partners
  • Manage ongoing prioritization of underwriting asks, appropriately balancing business value & resource capacity
  • Conduct comprehensive analyses of competitor strategies and market conditions
  • Facilitate underwriting working groups to drive content creation & acceptance criteria development for high priority underwriting features for future product build outs
  • Establish and manage wholistic project timelines, track progress of key milestones, and closely follow risks and dependencies for new product underwriting content creation
  • Create ongoing feedback loop to keep UW stakeholders informed of project plans, upcoming deliverables, and "need to know" items
  • Support high-impact line of business (LOB) UW strategy priorities
  • Provide SME support on LOB underwriting questions from across the org

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, economics, or other quantitative field
  • Minimum 6 years, typically 8 years or more of relevant work experience
  • Master's degree beneficial
  • Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, and data analysis software (e.g., SAS, Access)
  • Must have good planning, organizational, analytical, decision making and communication skills
  • Experience managing projects preferred
