The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

Description

Global Risk Solutions Underwriting & Policy Tech is seeking a Solutions Engineer in our Risk Proposal and Issuance Portfolio. We are looking for a driven individual to join our portfolio leadership team to help shape the future of our underwriting digital products in support of our global underwriters. This role will provide technical leadership in the support, planning, and transformation of these digital products.

 

Responsibilities:

 

As the Solutions Engineer, you will be responsible for contributing to the technical vision, leading the design, and ensuring alignment with architectural guardrails and strategy to support our product development teams in creating solutions that meet our underwriting needs. You’ll promote a culture of continuous improvement by finding solutions that increase efficiency, accelerate the adoption of new technologies and enhance profitability.

 

  • In-depth knowledge of diverse and emerging technologies, architectural concepts, and principles.
  • Knowledge of insurance concepts (specifically underwriting) is encouraged but not required. The ability to learn complex business processes is essential.
  • Road mapping and estimation of development work needed to achieve business value/outcomes.
  • Willingness to tackle challenges directly, learn proactively, and contribute new ideas while considering others' suggestions and insights.
  • Work across multiple Scrum teams in a scaled agile environment to support and mentor developers in delivering their solutions and developing their skills

Qualifications

Experience

  • 10+ years of related software engineering professional experience.
  • Excellent negotiation, facilitation, and consensus-building capabilities.
  • Openness and adaptability to respond to fast-moving circumstances.
  • Proficiency in multiple object-oriented programming languages and tools.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Aptitude for working in teams.
  • Strong consultative skills, including the ability to understand and apply customer requirements, draw out unforeseen implications, and make recommendations for design.
  • Experience working in a broad technical leadership capacity directing, coaching, and mentoring across teams/product lines.
  • Strong experience in delivery with agile in a scaled environment (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, etc.).
  • Experience developing and designing for cloud environments. Knowledge of a range of technologies including: Angular, Java, Javascript, Typescript, AWS, Spring Boot, mySQL, Flowable, Step Functions, AWS, postgreSQL, MSSQL, Bamboo, Ping, Azure.
  • Hands-on experience with build/deploy automation and devops frameworks (CI/CD, Bamboo, pipeline-as-code, AWS CDK/CFT).
  • Experience and understanding of access control and authentication to secured SDLC processes.
  • Well-versed in diverse technologies and technical architecture principles and concepts. Extensive knowledge in layered systems architectures solutions and designs and shared software concepts.

Education

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a technical or business discipline, or equivalent experience
