The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

Description

Under moderate supervision, following standard practices, procedures, and Quality Control (QC) protocols, performs routine analyses in one or more specialties including metal or solvent analysis. Works with other chemists using a wide variety of instrumentation and analytical methods. With guidance from Prod/QC Chemist Consultant/IH Laboratory Supervisor, may prepare/modify existing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to accurately reflect laboratory work processes.

 

This is a 100% onsite position.

 

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine analysis on samples sent by internal and external customers using detailed laboratory instructions and established procedures.
  • Effectively prioritizes and balances work to meet customer needs and unit's goals.
  • Seek ways to improve work processes to gain efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Meets internal quality control policies as required by AIHA LAP, LLC (American Industrial Hygiene Association - Laboratory Accreditation Programs) and International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in assigned laboratory areas.
  • Recognizes atypical data and applies judgment to data interpretation and troubleshooting of analytical procedures.
  • Assists senior chemists in performing new or more complicated analyses using a wide variety of instrumentation and analytical methodology to identify and quantify components of air that may be hazardous to the environment or health of workers.
  • Works with PROD/QC Chemist Consultant or peers in developing and maintaining lab Quality Control Program.
  • Calculates airborne concentrations of workplace contaminants and prepares reports based on findings.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of at least one analytical instrument such as the gas chromatography, inductively coupled plasma spectrophotometry, X-ray diffractometry, high pressure liquid chromatography, ion chromatography, gas analysis, microscopy and gravimetry
  • Excellent computer skills are desirable
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to work independently under strict deadlines
  • BS Chemistry and 1-3 years of relevant experience
