The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

Description

North America Actuarial & Analytics is seeking a Manager, Actuary responsible for supporting Single Carrier Property growth and profitability goals. As lead actuary for field teams, you will build knowledge and expertise of Property business segments to provide meaningful actuarial analysis around loss drivers, impact of business strategy, mix of business, and directly support large account pricing.  Scope of responsibilities will include engagement and influence of business strategies, portfolio and STT monitoring & reporting,

training underwriting teams on models, communications of pricing updates and thought leadership around complex account pricing. This position will help drive the strategic vision of Property pricing through partnerships with a variety of customers including Field Management, Finance, and Internal Pricing teams. The successful candidate will possess strong analytical and communication skills, as well as a demonstrated ability to execute thoroughly in a collaborative environment. Superior problem-solving and experience managing moderate complexity projects required.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with underwriting, providing pricing and portfolio solutions to support profitability and growth goals.
  • Directly influence and engage in quarterly deep dives, product planning and strategy evaluations.
  • Provide book mix insights and CAT exposure through aggregation and TVAR monitoring.
  • Perform complex actuarial analyses to assist business decision making and strategy development.
  • Enhance and execute large account pricing methods to supplement technical pricing for complex commercial Property accounts.
  • Provide clear and concise communication of technical actuarial work to underwriters, managers, and senior leadership.
  • Deliver pricing model updates and portfolio impacts to underwriting partners.
  • Collaborate closely with groups such as ERM CAT, Finance, Product and Office of Underwriting teams to drive strategy.
  • Strong data manipulation skills including the ability to query, consolidate, and test for reasonability needed. Knowledge of R and SAS preferred.
  • Manage 2-3 analysts and/or actuarial students.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; Masters degree preferred
  • Fellowship in the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) or near-FCAS designation preferred
  • 5-10 years progressively responsible experience, including supervisory experience
  • Ability to foster teamwork and relationships across organizational line
  • Knowledge of underwriting concepts including company/agency relationships' importance to the business success.
  • Written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively express technical actuarial and statistical concepts to non-technical individuals internal and external to the organization
  • Advanced decision making, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Expands/maintains Actuarial professional knowledge through society (CAS/AAA) publications and meetings/conferences
