The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

Description

Reporting directly to the USRM Chief Actuary, the VP & Manager, Property & Specialty Analytics will be responsible for driving the right actions to achieve consistent target profitability, then profitable growth for our $12B Property & Specialty book. This leader will execute high-quality analytics, partnering with decision-makers and senior leadership to gain buy-in and translating analysis into concrete business actions in market. This role will have a seat at the Property & Specialty executive table and be a critical thought leader on the most important decisions driving the success of our Property & Specialty lines.

 

This position is responsible for providing analytics and insights for the PL P&S book and will lead a team of ~50 talented actuarial and analytical professionals with the following responsibilities:

  • Drive informed state level rate and underwriting decisions, partnering closely with Product and specifically State Management, delivering consistent target returns while maximizing growth.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional areas such as Finance, US Data Science, Product and Claims, to understand and isolate drivers of results, perform deep-dive analyses on emerging areas of risk and recommend actions to address opportunity areas.
  • Be a critical thought partner to the Property & Specialty CPO and Product leadership team; offer insightful perspective, drive change where necessary, challenge key decision points, and be a strong contributor to the overall trajectory of the line
  • Elevate and drive improvements in the key Risk Analytics capabilities: rate indications, actuarial support, product health and performance monitoring, loss and top-line forecasting, and granular product and actuarial analysis
  • Attract, develop, and lead a talented team of analytical and actuarial professionals with deep Property & Specialty and state expertise and enable an inclusive, equitable, and high-performing culture

Qualifications

  • Competencies typically acquired through a Bachelor`s degree in business, economics, or other quantitative field or a minimum 12 years of experience in jobs with progressive responsibility, preferably in insurance
  • Advanced degree and/or ACAS/FCAS designation preferred
  • Must have exceptional planning, organizational, analytical, and decision-making and communication skills
  • Experience managing individuals or operations required
  • Excellent analytic, quantitative and problem-solving skills proven ability to leverage skills and influence other leaders across the SBU
  • Expert knowledge of product offerings, business processes, product line systems, underwriting rules, pricing plans and databases
  • Expert knowledge/expertise of external competitor product offerings, pricing plans
  • Expert understanding of insurance concepts and financial metrics
