The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

Description

U.S. Retail Markets (USRM) Actuarial Reserving team is looking for a Senior Actuarial Analyst to support the Personal Auto Liability quarterly reserve review process. This position is responsible for internal assessments of reserves with a focus on protecting the USRM balance sheet via early and effective recognition and communication of key trends and risks. Other responsibilities include participation with innovation efforts focused on improving reserving analyses and the implementation of process improvement initiatives to support reserving unit goals and cross-functional needs.  

 

A successful candidate displays leadership and possesses strong analytical, critical thinking, and communication skills and is able to synthesize information from multiple sources to piece together a clear, cohesive reserve opinion and present to senior leadership.

Responsibilities:

  • Own the quarterly reserve review for assigned Personal Auto Liability coverage(s) and communicate results to Senior Management
  • Partner with stakeholders in Claims, Trends, and Product to understand impact from internal and external factors on reserves, loss development patterns, and trends
  • Monitor and analyze USRM and industry trends to ensure reserve estimates incorporate the impact of ongoing changes in the legal and operational environment
  • Execute deep-dive analyses on Personal Auto Liability segment(s) to uncover impactful analytics and insights
  • Build and improve on existing diagnostics to effectively and efficiently execute on quarterly reserve reviews
  • Explore and develop technical skills to improve analytics sophistication (SAS, PowerBI, etc.)
  • Champion innovation and continuous improvement efforts within USRM Actuarial Reserving, as well as across SBUs

Qualifications

  • Proven math and analytical skills, as normally acquired through the pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Actuarial Science, or related field.
  • Commitment to achieving Associateship or Fellowship in the Casualty Actuarial Society.
  • Passing grades on a minimum of 5 Casualty Actuarial Exams is required.
  • Minimum 3-5 years relevant experience required.
  • Prior experience and solid knowledge of actuarial techniques and standards, as well as other business operations including financial, underwriting, legal, statistics, claims, sales, etc.
  • Solid oral and written and presentation communication skills and ability to interact effectively within and outside the organization.
  • Solid interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Ability to motivate and mentor peers and motivate and train subordinates.
  • Ability to exercise discretion, and apply independent judgment and well-developed critical thinking skills in execution of assignments and projects.
  • Ability to balance multiple projects with minimal direction.
  • Advanced computing skills (MS Office Excel, SAS, etc.); Ability to build models of moderate complexity.
