The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

Description

Reporting to the Head of GRS Strategy & Corporate Development, this role is responsible for orchestrating the development of the long-term strategy for the ~$25B commercial and specialty (re)insurance business and driving strategic discussions with the leadership team. This is a highly visible role requiring organizational agility, strategic thinking, commercial and specialty (re)insurance market expertise, people leadership, and strong communication skills. The role is also responsible for ensuring close alignment with the overall group strategy and developing executive presentations for the GRS leadership team, LMG executive leadership team, and LMG Board of Directors. Also critical to this role is partnering with the Strategy Leaders and CFOs for North America, Global Surety, Liberty International Insurance, and Liberty Mutual Reinsurance to ensure the One GRS strategy is inclusive of each business segment strategy and continually iterating on our strategic planning process to ensure it enables achievement of our long-term strategy and addresses evolving market dynamics.

 

Responsibilities

  • Manage the prioritization, development, and execution of GRS strategic initiatives that enable the business to achieve its long-term strategy and aspirations
  • Ensure business segment strategic plans fit with the overall GRS strategy and partner closely with the business unit Strategy Leaders and CFOs to drive close alignment
  • Develop, iterate on, and orchestrate strategic planning processes which enables GRS to maintain an always-on strategic mindset and set annual plans which move us towards our strategic objectives
  • Work closely with Strategy Leaders, CFOs, and GRS SLT throughout the strategic planning process
  • Develop and/or support the development of all executive presentations for the GRS LT including materials to be used in GRS LT discussions, Board of Directors presentations, and LMG ELT discussions
  • Responsible for ensuring the broader connection and consistency of these materials across the organization and developing supporting materials needed to effectively communicate key messages.
  • Manage external consulting relationships, ensuring high impact and positive ROI on strategic engagements
  • Facilitate strategic conversations between the GRS President, GRS LT, and the LMG ELT to report on and execute against key strategic focus areas for GRS
  • Lead GRS Strategy & Corporate Development staff members and their professional development

Qualifications

  • Bachelor`s degree in business administration, marketing, operations management, computer science or other related field
  • MBA or other relevant advanced degree desired
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant general business experience, to include experience with strategic planning, finance, and evaluation of the economics of an insurance business
  • 7+ years of progressively more responsible and highly effective operations management experience in lieu of other skills will be considered
  • Expert influencing skills, with a strong ability to build consensus among multiple levels and functions within the organization
  • Will need to influence actions and drive results among parties with different agendas and reporting relationships
