The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

Description

This underwriting position is for Specialty Healthcare Life Sciences. Assesses risks and makes recommendations for underwriting decisions with support and guidance from leadership as needed, while developing underwriting skills and building critical internal and external relationships.

 

This is a hybrid position. If you reside within 50 miles of one of the following offices, you will be required to report on-site twice a week: Philadelphia, PA; Portsmouth, PA; New York, NY; and Atlanta, GA. Please note this policy is subject to change.

 

The actual compensation for this role will depend on the candidate’s geographic location, overall experience, and skill level.

 

Responsibilities:  

 

  • Reviews and negotiates policy terms and conditions with assistance from the manager.
  • Reviews, rates, and underwrites targeted new business and renewal accounts at the direction of the manager.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with the brokerage community to facilitate marketing of healthcare products and services.
  • Underwrites targeted new and renewal business by reviewing and analyzing insured's (or prospective insured's) loss history, financials, and other pertinent information at the direction of the manager.
  • Begins to make independent marketing calls to brokers and prospective insureds.
  • Contributes to the development of marketing plans, product analysis, services, geographic focus and broker intelligence.
  • Communicates with other product line underwriters and claims analysts in order to provide comprehensive customer service.
  • Performs related duties as requested to include report preparation, presentations, and special projects to assist in ensuring the success of the product line unit.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Business or equivalent typically required
  • 1 to 5 years of underwriting experience and/or other related business experience
  • Actively pursuing professional insurance designations
  • Ability to successfully develop and maintain effective internal and external relationships
  • Demonstrated analytical ability to evaluate and judge underwriting risks within defined authority
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills required with ability to successfully develop and maintain productive producer/customer relationships
  • When applicable, successful completion of certifications
