The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

Responsibilities: 

  • Prepare and review tax-related financial statement calculations, entries, and disclosures to ensure accuracy and compliance with relevant standards.
  • Oversee compliance assignments, ensuring thorough work-paper documentation and referencing for transparency and audit readiness.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of corporate tax, including specialized areas, by conducting research and providing detailed memoranda to support tax positions.
  • Support tax controversy efforts by responding to information requests and preparing detailed workpapers and other necessary documentation.
  • Assist in the identification and implementation of process improvements to enhance tax efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Conduct in-depth research on emerging tax issues and stay informed about changes in tax legislation, providing insights and updates to the team.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal departments to gather and verify the necessary information required for accurate and timely tax filings.

Note: This is a Hybrid opportunity with compensation dependent on candidate’s geographic location, overall experience, and skill level.

Qualifications

  • Educational Background: A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field is required. Equivalent tax or accounting experience may also be considered.
  • Experience: A minimum of one year of experience in tax is essential, including areas such as financial reporting, compliance, audit, and planning. Experience with a major public accounting firm or large multinational corporation is preferred.
  • Tax Knowledge: Basic knowledge of corporate taxation and financial statement analysis is required.

Advanced Qualifications: An advanced degree or certification is preferred, but not required.

  • Industry Experience: Experience in the insurance industry is desirable but not mandatory.
  • Motivation and Multitasking: The role demands a highly motivated individual who can multitask and meet deliverables within tight deadlines.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and oral communication skills are crucial for articulating information clearly and concisely to both tax and non-tax audiences.
  • Interpersonal Skills: The ability to effectively interact with diverse personalities is essential for fostering collaboration and maintaining positive relationships within the team and stakeholders.
