The GRS North America Construction Complex team plays a pivotal role in driving and enabling the success across our Commercial Casualty organization. Our team is responsible for determining coverage, investigating complex and highly complex commercial casualty claims by determining liability, setting and adjusting reserves, evaluating the claim, negotiating a settlement, authorizing and resolving the claim. We have a current and immediate opening for a Senior Technical Claims Specialist who will demonstrate a high level of expertise and sound judgment in complex matters, and may act as a subject matter expert for complex Construction claims.

 

The Senior Technical Claims Specialist determines coverage, investigates complex and highly complex Commercial Casualty claims, determines liability, sets and adjusts reserves, evaluates the claim, negotiates a settlement, authorizes and resolves the claim.   The selected person will demonstrate a high level of expertise and sound judgment in complex matters; may act as a subject matter expert.  The team handles Commercial Auto and General Liability for Construction Accounts related to Bodily Injury and specific event Property Damage claims, but not Construction Defect claims.

 

This is a remote position, but please note you will be required to go into one of the following GRS Claims Offices at least twice a month if you reside within a 50 mile radius: Bala Cynwyd, PA; Boston, MA; Hoffman Estates, IL; Indianapolis, IN; Lake Oswego, OR; Las Vegas, NV; Plano, TX; Suwanee, GA; Syracuse, NY; Tampa, FL; or Weatogue, CT.   This requirement is subject to change.

 

We are open to fill as a Senior Technical Claims Specialist I or II, based on candidate experience.  Salary listed is for the entire country, and may vary based on candidate location.  The typical salary ranges from $105,000-125,000.

Senior Technical Claims Specialist I Salary: $81,700-$152,400

Senior Technical Claims Specialist II Salary: $91,800 - $171,100

 

In this role, as the claim's owner, you can expect to:

  • Determine coverage, investigate the claims, determine liability, set and adjust reserves, evaluate the claim, negotiate a settlement, authorize and pay the claim; and may deny claims.
  • Review lawsuit documentation and supporting documents, claims file, investigation, etc.  Establish actions to be taken to resolve lawsuit, which includes determining loss coverage, amounts owed, discovery plans, setting reserves and negotiations.
  • Establish appropriate working team (Home Office Legal, Defense Counsel and Home Office Claims) based on allegations established in suit.
  • Responsible for managing the practices and billing activities of outside counsel.
  • Accountable for security of financial processing of claims, as well as security of information contained in claims files.
  • Train and mentor staff as appropriate; manage relationships and acts as liaison with various business partners (e.g., Underwriting, Reinsurance, Etc.).
  • Keep abreast of existing and proposed legislation, court decisions and trends and experience pertaining to specialty coverage issues.
  • May analyze the impact upon claims policies and procedures and advises Claims Management so appropriate action can be taken where required.
  • Participate in special projects as assigned. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5 to 7 years claims adjusting experience.
  • Commercial Auto and General Liability claims experience preferred.
  • Experience with a heavily litigated pending and claims over $500,000 strongly desired.
  • Advanced knowledge of Commercial Casualty claims investigation, coverage evaluation, reserving & expense management, resolution strategy, negotiation, litigation management, claims evaluation as well as the insurance legal and regulatory environment.        
  • Experience in contract analysis and risk transfer concepts would be great!        
  • Intermediate to advanced level of skill in the area of customer focus, problem solving, communications, gaining support, teamwork, and adaptability and demonstrated ability to work independently, achieve results and execute thoroughly.        
  • Wrap up policy and/or NY Labor Law experience a plus!        
  • License and experience in multiple jurisdictions a plus!
