If you are an experienced claims professional with Commercial Excess Claims experience, this is the role for you!

 

Liberty Mutual has an immediate opening for an Excess and Coverage Senior Technical Claims Specialist as part of our Excess, Coverage and Specialized Claims Unit.  This role allows you to use your strong coverage analysis and excess and surplus claims experience to be a key contributor to support our GRS goals and commitment to Win with Purpose!  If you have experience with Excess and Surplus claims you are strongly encouraged to apply as this role does require the experience to step in and assume a desk of pending claims!

 

In this role, under moderate direction, you will handle a book of Commercial Casualty Excess/Umbrella claims, throughout the entire claims life cycle. Excess claim types include, but are not limited to, premises liability, auto, products, mass torts, across the United States for both Coverage A and Coverage B claims on admitted and non-admitted paper. Complex Excess claims experience needed to evaluate claims with significant financial exposure.

 

Additionally, you will be responsible for conducting investigations, recommending adequate reserves, monitoring, documenting, assessing any risk transfer potential, and settling/closing claims in an expeditious and economical manner within prescribed authority limits for the line of business.

 

*This is a remote position. Please note, you will be required to go into the office twice a month if you reside within 50 miles of one of the following offices: Bala Cynwyd, PA; Boston, MA; Hoffman Estates, IL; Indianapolis, IN; Lake Oswego, OR; Las Vegas, NV; Plano, TX; Suwanee, GA; Syracuse, NY; Tampa, FL; or Weatogue, CT. Please note this policy is subject to change.

 

**This is a range posting, and we may fill as grade 15 or 16. The salary range posted reflects this range and various geographic remote locations. A typical salary will be between $105,000-$130,000.

Senior Technical Claims Specialist I Salary: $81,700-152,400 (based on candidate location and experience)

Senior Technical Claims Specialist II Salary: 91,800-171,100 (based on candidate location and experience)

Annual FTO Days Accrual: 2 days per month, up to 20 days per year

 

Responsibilities:

 

    • Analyzes, investigates, and evaluates the loss to determine coverage and claim disposition. Utilizes Claims systems to document claims and to diary future events or follow-up.
    • Within prescribed settlement authority for the line of business, establishes appropriate reserves for both indemnity and expense and reviews on a regular basis to ensure adequacy. Makes recommendations to set reserves at appropriate level for claims outside of authority level.
    • Prepares comprehensive reports as required. Identifies and communicates specific claim trends and account and/or policy issues to management and underwriting.
    • Manages relationships and acts as liaison with various business partners (e.g., Underwriting, Reinsurance, Etc.).
    • Manages the litigation process through the retention of counsel. Adheres to the line of business litigation guidelines to include budget, bill review and payment.
    • Monitors the case resolution process. Actively participates in mediations and arbitrations, within limit of settlement authority.
    • Participates in Claims audit process.
    • May provide claims marketing services by participating in meetings with brokers, risk managers and re-insurers.
    • Participates in special projects.              

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5 to 7 years of relevant claims handling experience.
  • Experience with Commercial Umbrella policies/Excess claims averaging $1-3 million or more preferred!  Experience with Coverage A and Coverage B claims on admitted and non-admitted paper a plus!
  • Advanced knowledge of Commercial Casualty claims investigation, coverage evaluation, reserving & expense management, resolution strategy, negotiation, litigation management, claims evaluation as well as the insurance legal and regulatory environment.
  • Intermediate to advanced level of skill in the area of customer focus, problem solving, communications, gaining support, teamwork, and adaptability and demonstrated ability to work independently, achieve results and execute thoroughly.
  • Experience mentoring others and/or serving as Subject Matter Expert with related claims.
  • Strong coverage analysis skills highly desired!
