The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

Description

Critical thought leader who handles all levels of Inland Marine/Builders Risk losses, including complex, high exposure claims that may have unique factors that typically take an extended period of time to settle. Ensures proper coverage, reserves, file handling and settling of assigned cases. Collaborates and consults with our Inland Marine/Builders Risk Underwriting and Engineering partners to determine liability and identify risk conditions to drive continuous improvement toward claims handling and risk management excellence.

 

As the claims owner, determines coverage, investigates the claims, determines liability, sets and adjusts reserves, evaluates the claim, negotiates a settlement, authorizes and pays the claim.  Identifies potential suspicious claims or possible third-party subrogation.

 

1. Responsible for managing the practices and billing activities of outside experts . Accountable for security of financial processing of claims, as well as security information contained in claims files.

 

2. Ensures accurate reserves and adjusts as warranted. Recommends reserve increases on cases in excess of authority.

 

3. Confers directly with policyholders on coverage and resolution issues pursuant to departmental guidelines. May participate in training programs, conferences, ride-alongs and departmental and intra-departmental meetings. Communicates regularly with actuarial partners on case status and development.

 

4. Ability to leverage Liberty’s flexible work environment to work remotely. Travel to loss sites is required, with the ability to stay as needed. Travel may be required on short notice. Assist with Standard Fire policy claims at the discretion of management in times of catastrophe.

 

5. Communicates and collaborates across disciplines to establish and maintain relationships and timely and accurate information sharing to achieve organizational and policyholder success.

 

6. Embraces a growth mindset and actively contributes to collaborative team culture. Continues to improve personal knowledge and practices of the insurance industry through work experience, in-house instruction, insurance-specific designations, industry courses, home office seminars and workshops, etc.

Qualifications

Estimating knowledge using CoreLogic and/or Xactimate is required, along with the ability to navigate within Corelogic suites and guidewire claims handling platforms.   

Exercises a high level of autonomy in handling and reviewing assigned cases and completing special projects. Advanced knowledge of property and/or highly complex claims handling procedures, insurance operations; coverage evaluation; claims investigation, loss assessment and reserving, and negotiation and settlement. Other skills required; intermediate computer competencies to include Excel, ability to collaborate effectively through teamwork, seek excellence through achieving results, practice continuance improvement and have a customer service focus. Bachelor's degree or equivalent; successful completion of required internal training programs and at least 10+ years of progressive Property Claims experience, with at least 10+ years of Commercial Builders Risk claims handling.
