The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

Description

Designs/conducts Industrial Hygiene field surveys to identify/assess physical, chemical or biological health hazards in the workplace. Workload includes service development/oversight for largest, most complex accounts. Conducts research and gathers/analyzes data to develop recommendations to control sources of risk, loss, and cost. Develop/provide or directs others to implement recommendations. Prepares reports to management that quantify/qualify value of Industrial Hygiene interventions. Provides support and assistance to internal market partners in the selection, acquisition and retention of profitable business. Participates in projects to: address emerging risks and determine control strategies; develop/maintain service tools and standard operating procedures. Mentors less experienced staff.

 

Depending on experience this role can be hired at varous consultant levels. 

 

Travel up to 50% within the New England Territory (ME, MA, VT, NH). 

 

Responsibilities

  • Requiring minimal technical oversight and supervision, provides direct IH field service to both internal and external customers including comprehensive quality risk evaluations and exposure assessments by conducting extensive research and data collection on chemical, physical, and/or biological hazards/exposures, indoor air quality/mold exposure issues and other occupational disease hazards.
  • May coordinate workflow and direct day to day work assignments of IH Technicians in RCS IH. Reviews data/field notes collected by IH Technician and reviews conclusions and recommended plan of action in reports, as needed, prior to release to customers. Reports generally issued under joint signature even if data collection was completed solely by IH Technician.
  • May serve as a subject matter expert (SME) in a specific area of expertise (such as Confined Space Entry, Vibration, IAQ/mold, etc.) Also acts as a mentor to other Hygienists and IH Technicians as the identified SME.
  • In coordination with assigned RCS Account Consultants meets with large, complex multi-location customers to develop comprehensive IH service plans and coordinates delivery of the service plan with field IH staff countrywide. Interprets and analyzes loss data trends, identifies root causes and contributing causes, and provides direction in reducing or eliminating the potential for OD exposures at assigned IH service management locations. Consults with RCS Account Consultants to assure that IH service plan is executed and meets desired deliverables.
  • Develops policies, procedures, and service protocols associated with IH service. This may include researching new information and keeping up-to-date with changing occupational disease exposure standards and guidelines.
  • Assists in the development of internal generalist Industrial Hygienist skills in the Liberty Mutual IH consulting population. May develop, direct, and participate in training of internal and external customers. Also may provide compliance consulting services and peer reviews work completed by non-CIH professionals at the facility as required by the client.
  • Provide various internal departments with information and guidance as it relates to RCS, Claims, Underwriting and Sales.
  • Maintains CIH and/or CSP designation and insurance/safety designations as appropriate through ongoing certification maintenance such as training, education, etc.
  • May publish scientific research in peer-reviewed or trade journals and/or present technical research papers or posters at local and national conferences.
  • May represent the Company and enhance the technical recognition of the RCS IH by serving on a technical committee (ANSI, ASHRAE, AIHA, etc.) 

Qualifications

  • Expert knowledge of risk management; occupational disease risk assessment and control; and risk improvement
  • Sophisticated ability to consult with, educate and influence all levels of an organization
  • Highly-developed problem-solving, research and analytical skills
  • Knowledge of software applications designed to facilitate data aggregation and analysis
  • Excellent written communication skills for documenting service plans and management reports
  • Knowledge, skills and other capabilities normally acquired through a Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering or related field and 7-10 years' progressively responsible, relevant consulting experience in an industrial hygiene/loss control environment
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) required; Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.
