The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

Description

Job Summary:

Under general supervision, contributes to the growth and profitability

of assigned specialty product line(s) through marketing, underwriting and managing of the Cyber/Technology Liability, product.  Some risks may require special handling or unusual coverages, including manuscript policy development. Demonstrates functional technical knowledge of underwriting concepts, practices, procedures and techniques to include coverage issues, product lines, marketing, relevant systems, and competition in the market place.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Risk Selection:  evaluates or assesses the business applying for insurance by qualifying accounts; identifying, selecting and assessing risks; determining the premium, policy terms and conditions; loss history review; financials review; obtaining approvals; creating/presenting the proposal to the agent/broker and successfully negotiating deals.
  2. Establishes and maintains relationships with the brokerage community to facilitate marketing of IronPro products and services. Includes marketing and travel to brokers and clients.
  3. Underwrites targeted new and renewal business of by reviewing and analyzing insured's (or prospective insured's) loss history, financials, and other pertinent information at the direction of the manager.
  4. Makes independent marketing calls to brokers and prospective insureds.
  5. Contributes to the development of marketing plans, product analysis, services, geographic focus and broker intelligence
  6. Communicates with other product line underwriters, managers and claims analysts in order to provide comprehensive customer service
  7. Performs related duties as requested to include, report preparation, presentations, and special projects to assist in ensuring the success of the product line
  8. Documenting the Deal: Documents files in a way that reflects a solid thought process and decision making through comprehensive account reviews, sign-offs and referrals
  9. Continuous Improvement: Actively participates in continuous improvement by fully engaging in daily huddles, generating suggestions, following appropriate procedures and work principles, participating in problem solving activities, and using continuous improvement tools to support the work of the team

Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent experience (insurance experience preferred)
  • Three to four years of underwriting or equivalent experience required
  • Knowledge of Professional Lines products preferred
  • Expert in contract knowledge, underwriting, in-depth knowledge of regulatory and policy differences among states in which business is transacted, and knowledge of systems used to process business
  • Demonstrated depth in negotiation skills
  • Achieves excellent quality results and the highest referral list
  • Proficient PC skills and capable of working multi-faceted systems
  • Ability to effectively and independently manage work load while exhibiting good judgment
  • Strong verbal communication and phone skills
  • Excellent grammar and written communication skill required
  • Must have strong relationship building skills with agents and other departments and exemplify teamwork
  • CPCU/API designation preferred
